Default BP Grade 1 High Performance should not be utilized

In my search for the correct oil Brad Penn just informed me that the oil many of us use is not to be used in our 964's. The email mentioned the catalytic converters as why. So my question is those who are using this oil are you without the catalytic converter or not concerned about it. I did do a search and many are using the Brad Penn and even see it recommended by Steve and LN engineering but not by Brad Penn themselves. Not asking what the best oil is but if you are using BP 20w50 do you have the cat or not care?

I believe they do not recommend it simply so that they won't be held liable for any potential cat damage, though I think the likelihood of cat damage is minimal.

High ZDDP content can effect catalytic converters, but I've read it takes 50k to 100k miles of use before any real damage

I had been using BP for years before I installed my cat bypass and was surprised at how good the cat material looked when I replaced it.

If you call the guys that make zddp additives, they will tell you the same. "Bad for the cat". But it's simply not true. You'd have to over do it, and then you'd have to go a few hundred k miles, and your car would have to be burning a ton of oil. I would rather buy a good used cat and bolt it on, than to replace rockers and cams and valve guides...

And, the amounts in brad penn are similar to normal synthetic oil from before they were mandated out of oils in the states.

My cat ran away from home a while back, if you know what I mean.

BP is Brad Penn ... not to be confused with British Petroleum (BP)
