No, I meant why do you not think shampoos are any good with Carnuba wax? What do you use?

When clicking on the link you gave, it shows me a 'you are not logged in registered' or something like that....

Hi Christer

Try www.autopia.org A forum for unusual people who seem to clean rather than drive their cars - but some good 'top tips' nonetheless.

I find that, due to the Victoria Yellow, a hose down followed by a bucket of warm water and sponge is all I need to wash my car.

I've got a totally uninformed non-scientific hunch that any sort of soap/shampoo must remove a bit of the wax?

damn right you're uninformed!

You can get a variety of shampoos etc that don't strip wax. Even if you don't believe the hype on the bottle, I can tell you that Victoria Wax's own shampoo and others I have tried do not strip off the wax. I just washed my car for the 3rd time since applying wax last week, and the water still rolls straight off the car. Remember, the good shampoos for cars do not have the fat-breakdown properties of Fairy liquid or say hair shampoo. Chamois leather is your top 'wax-stripper' - always dry your car by driving, soft cotton towels or more bizarrely by leaf blower!

I don't know Autopia, I just believe my own eyes.

Which Victoria is the preferred choice for sloppytippytappytronicslushomatics??

Seriously, I have heard good reports about this stuff and I may actually wash my car this year!

The wax comes in (well last year it did) 2 flavours, yellow and red. The yellow has less carnuba content so is a little easier to apply. I use the red personally - I wax the car only about 2-3 times per year - that's all it needs.

I think I might test Meguiars carnube wax next time. If theirs is anywhere near as good as Victoria Wax, I'll use that instead. The strength of the VW is the amount of carnuba in it and hence how long it stays on the car. I am not sure it always gives the best 'deep and wet' look shine, but for protection I haven't found anything that beats it. And no white residue of course.

Hope that helps and doesn't BORE Raby!!!!!!!

"Fairy liquid"

Hmmm. I don't think I like the sound of that.
