My recently retired Dad wants to upgrade to a newer 911 and is looking to sell his 1991 C4 Targa and I am looking for some help on where to price it. It is essentially a 1 owner car (he bought in 1993 when it had only 165 miles on it) and has spent most of its life in the NW but has been in So Cal for the last couple years and is there now.
1991 C4 Targa
Manual Transmission
103K Miles
Non Smoker
All receipts (and I mean ALL)
I don't think the top has ever been folded
Only modifications are stereo upgrade and 17" non factory wheels
No accidents but rear bumper was repainted several years ago
What do you think a fair price would be for him to ask for it?
Nice car, the history and records are a big plus. If you still have the original radio that would also be positive. If you have a solid PPI I would say $35K.
It's a seller's market, so by all means start high and work your way down. That car has a lot going for it: low miles, desirable color, service history, manual, cosmetics look immaculate.
+1 on waiting until Spring. Dealers would be asking damn near $40k for that car all day long. I'd personally start around $35-37k and test the waters. You can always trickle down.
Thank you all very much for your help. I really appreciate it. I will be down there this weekend and plan to take more pictures and create a proper ad. He tells me he is ready to sell, but having owned the car for so long I think there is some emotion in the sale on his side, which explains the delay in getting the ad posted.

Totally agree on this and much better than the junk flippers and shady dealers try to sell for a small ransom. Mid-to-high 30s can be attainable and I don't think there will be a need to trickle down, if anything the flippers may even trip over themselves to try and get it at a discount. Too bad it's not a C2 Tip or else it would have been the perfect find for my wife.
I just pirchased a 1990 c4 targa last week , is also a one owner with all service records, window sticker , 100% stock and with some nice options , the targa is black on black with 37k miles , this car targ top had never been removed until I bought it , I paid mid 30's .
Has this car had a top end rebuilt ? Or the clutch replaced ? I'm thinking more like $28-$30k for this car , if it had a top end rebuilt done than I will say low $30's
