Default Help with identifying ticking noise

Hey guys.
I am currently doing a reseal (and other things) job on my C4.
After my first time valve adjustment, i fired up my baby and it sounded like this.

Other items i've changed:
Spark plugs, plug wires, coils, distributor caps and rotors, and dropped the exhaust.

Is this a valve ticking noise, or an exhaust leak?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow. That's ticky. It's so inconsistent...give Steve Weiner a call and get his opinion before running it again. If it's a broken valve spring you may not want to be running it.

Good luck. I hope it's just an exhaust leak, but too hard to tell from the video.

Yes, this sound is coming from exhaust.

Use Holz Firegum for tightening couplings by between cat and primary muffler and between primary and secondary muffler.

broken head stud or misadjusted valve creating a compression leak

it won't be a leak if it is an inconsistent sound like you have. Sounds like something is loose or broken.
+1 on not running it any more till you recheck.

replaced broken head studs this summer but it was a consistent ticking. This seems all over the place.

Sounds like something rolling around in the fan. It sure sounds like something loose, not consistent enough to be a broken spring. Id have it transported to a shop for expert guidance. Good luck!
