Default Love the 964...but

....Im being tempted by a 996 turbo swap....should I keep the 964 or should I trade it? Am I doing a bad business? Will the 964 increase in value? (The 996 probably will decrease)....will I miss the charm of the 964 over the speed and other attributes of the 996 turbo? .....what's your thoughts??

996 tt is fast but dull - you will miss the 964 pretty quick if you sell it even if the tt goes quicker up the local bypass

Agreed Jevvy. If you want to change for something more modern I think you'd find the 6TT a tad sterile. Maybe a gt3 would fit the bill better. Pace, poise and noise!

I bought a 996 TT as my ultimate 'keeper' car after having a 993 C4, 3.2 Carrera and a couple of M3's.
I owned it for 1 year only, and now have a 964 C2. Bliss!

As previously stated, they are incredibly fast and competent, but un-engaging as a result. Just my 02's.

A friend of mine has had a 964 Anniversary and a 996 TT with x50. He preferred the 964 and the 996 lasted only a year. "Never really loved it"

I had my 997TT for a year, just like the 7 previous owners, its a dream car that is anodyne and dull. The 964 is the polar opposite.

I am wondering if you spent say 10-15k on a 996T (say you pick it up for 20k privately.. not sure how realistic...) at 9E and tweaked engine, suspensions, brakes etc it would still be dull? ........a purely stock 964 may also be considered a tad dull no? Most of people on here have modded a few key components of their 964 to make it sharper and a nicer thing to drive.......are apples being compared to apples here?..........

IMO these are 2 almost completely different cars and 1 drive in a 996TT will make this very clear....whether you love it or hate it. Highly recommend you get in one for a ride/drive and I think you'll know pretty quickly what route you want to take.

I own both an 89 c4 and an 02 996tt with x50 and a flash. The 964 is more engaging and raw so overall I prefer driving it over the turbo. But if you're on the interstate going up to mountains the turbo is a blast. The acceleration is scary.

Close to my story... three years ago almost bought it to sit next to the 964.

Was concerned about the time I would need to invest in keeping both cars. Then thought I don't want to "steal" time anywhere else in my life or from the 964.

Still drove the turbo... and drove home in the 964 thinking about the subjectiveness of progress.

Never looked back... and every morning I walk to the office I look back at the 964 for the last 4 years.

Best car I ever owned.

Financially, no doubt the best I ever owned.

993tt with 500hp is what you want if you want scary acceleration AND an engaging drive.

Nothing has scared me more than driving that beast.

Just my 02.

I have a C4, Turbo 3.6 and 996TT. The latter is used for commuting on bad weather days. Otherwise I walk past it and take a 964.

As said above, they are fast but not overly engaging. Mine hasn't been overly reliable either. Engine and drivetrain are fine but some electrics aren't the best.
