Having seen the going rate of Turnkey Motec conversions at around £6K, I think the SC kit seems very good value for money.

On the part of running larger injectors (say 30%): why wouldn't closed loop wide band lambda control be perfectly capable of establishing target lambda values throughout the range after simply adjusting the entire fuel map with 30% lower duty cycles?

Sure, but you don't need to pay 9m rates to get motec. I'm not saying you necessarily get a motec fitted and mapped for 2k but you may be in the ballpark, and the added resale value of a car with motec probably makes the difference up.

Re closed loop lambda, its designed to trim fueling to account for small changes in conditions not to adjust for injector sizing. It's not a big deal though as its easy to change injector sizing params in all aftermarket EMS.

Yes that's what I meant, you manually adjust the fuel map to a 'ballpark figure' resembling the increased size of the injectors and have lambda control take care of the fine tuning.

As far as resale value is concerned: the market is hardly ever willing to pay extra for performance enhancements.....originality wins all day long. In my experience you're much better off bringing things back to standard and selling the performance pieces separately. My 2C...

On most EMS, you leave the fuel map alone when you resize injectors you just change the injector "multiplier". Especially with speed density where the "fuel table" is the target lambda, the EMS then makes a calculation based on the VE table value for the matching cell, rpm, latency and injector multiplier to give a pulse width. You can fudge it and just have wildly inaccurate values in the VE table but its the wrong way to do it.

"Motec" means something to a lot of people and while the really knowledgeable know to look deeper, many will take it as a sign the the money "has been spent in the right places" - right or wrong. You won't get your 6k back for a 9m job, but you'll get a 1k or so over the same car with a not so recognised ecu.

Anyway this is not to take away from this Typhoon ECU which looks well considered and engineered, and am looking forward to hearing more. On pure functionality and convenience it looks a good addition to the market which isn't brilliantly served atm.

Ah ok, thanks for your input on aftermarket EMS injector multiplier functionality!
I only have personal experience with ignition only DTA and Emerald, as well endless emulation/ tweaking of Weber IAW (OE turbo application)....

Caught up with Specialist Components this afternoon for a few more QQs
The good news is that it does drive the resonance flap, does integrate directly with a wideband without the necessity of an external driver (they list one on the site) here and if you are concerned about finding somebody to use the software they have tuning/mapping facilities on site.
Still thinking about it but it does look good.

ST, how long have you been running with this setup and who performed the mapping? Do you know anybody else who is running this on a 964?

Would you mind posting a few pics of the install? Ie the ECU and location of the new sensors etc

With VEMS you don't have to retune acceleration enrichment, warm-up enrichment or starting tables when changing injectors as these are percentages of the req_fuel constant (that injector multiplier).

Also VEMS has dual WBo2 lambda, dual EGT (maximum up to 16 EGT's with expansion board) controllers on board (and working also). Also, dual knock sensors are already included.
Makes it a bargain IMO considering that even with MS3 you have to purchase the extras all separately..

If there is some interest, I could arrange a group buy for VEMS 964 Motronic plug'n'play ECU.

Hi Raceboy,

From what I recall reading the software manual, the same applies to the Typhoon? I havn't yet decided which way to go yet as there are pros/cons for both. I'm not looking to take anything away from either party as they're both good products. I don't think there is any doubt over the VEMS capability but there are vast amounts of it I'll probably never use. My application will remain a mostly standard engine. I already have a cat bypass and cup pipe fitted so further mods will be limiter to RS flyweel and cam change - pretty simple really. The Typhoon being design/built and most importantly supported from within the UK is a BIG plus in my opinion.

Wish I could have been a part of a group buy, but really the price for the VEMS is considerably less than other systems.

The tuning software also seems very user friendly compared to others I have seen. Hope to have further updates of my install progress this coming week.
