Tilton Pedal Box - Another bad idea for my build...
Hi Guys,
do you have any experience with the Tilton box?
http://tiltonracing.com/product/600-...ount-assembly/
I was looking at the typical Rennline pedal set but figured the Tilton could be an interesting alternative.
Do you have any experience with it?
Any pros and cons?
There's a huge price difference between the 600 and 9000 series. Do you think the 600 is of decent quality?
My application is mostly track. I only drive the car on the street to and from the track.
thanks!

Why the Tiltons (yes, a quality product)?
Are you going to run dual masters? The Tilton sets are designed to be run with dual master cylinders which must be properly sized so that balance can be maintained (and then adjusted via the balance bar).
This is absolutely a different horse than the Rennline stuff, which are mere pedal covers.

The plan was indeed to run dual masters ( even though I thought of it as a more longer term project)
I need to refresh my pedals anyway and now I'm thinking that the rennline would just be a waste
The idea is to build the most capable track car, one part of the car at a time.
At this stage, I gutted the interior and am focusing on brakes and suspension

Hi Breljohn
I run the tilton 600 series pedal box and it is of excellent quality, the 900 series is just even better and for harsher environment I.e Endurance type events.
There are a few factors to consider as Kai B suggested probably the main one being can you drive the car with no power assistance is it 2 or 4 what does it weigh?
For me this was one of the best upgrades I have done but the car is a competition car and only weighs 1070Kg so the lack of assistance is no problem!
If these issues are of no concern then I can't recommend the product enough!!
Cheers

Hi Simon! Thanks for your input.
At the moment, the car is a C4. I just started putting her on a diet. Goal is 1250kgs at this point.
The main reason for me to look at the tilton was to be able to adjust the brake balance.
Probably not for every corner bu depending on track conditions (such as rain where I like a little more rear bias).
How complicated was the install and to make everything work in your car?
Thanks

This is a major investment in time, money and an alteration to your braking system of major proportion. All of the units mentioned above are race units and nowhere near the top five modifications one should consider for a part time track car.
(my record holding car still runs the factory pedal box and master cylinder)
I can only assume that, at your skill level given the fact that you are not building a race car, your brake bias should be fine and easily tuneable with many of the brake mods illustrated here...including a simple pad switch fore and aft.
You haven't mentioned yet whether you've made changes to your suspension, how many track days a year you run (and which level), which tires you run and a veritable raft of other things which could help ANYONE guide you further. Keep in mind the fact that 964s run very successfully in their PCA classes without any changes to the brakes at all.
If you intend to go racing, then the alteration you are proposing for the car will immediately pull you out of any stock classes anywhere and put you into GT...where without major and very expensive changes to the engine, transmission, suspension, aero and weight it will leave you as nothing more than a permanent back marker.
