964 or E30 M3?
I have been following the market for 964's for over a year now and have always loved the newer air cooled 911's (964 and 993). However, I am attracted to more 964's than 993's when I run into them rarely.
I have been filling my garage recently with some of my favorite cars from BMW and have always dreamed of owning an E30 M3. But I also have a deep regret that I have never owned a real 911, which to me is everything that is the 964. My current M cars have not been to much for me to handle, yet. Parts and labor may cost more at times, but I do plenty of my own wrenching.
Has anyone owned both of these cars at the same time? What was your take after driving each one? Which would you choose for the occasional weekend drive?

964!!! Every day, all day long! Two totally different cars! One is more refined...the other is refined and raw! When you finish your drive in the M3, you don't feel so worked...when you finish your drive in a 964, you are worked and feel like you did something special! Good luck!

Three Wheelin'
Never driven 964 but had a new E30 M3, beautiful car to own and drive - very easy to master with no idiosyncrasies or quirks, its very much like a normal 3 series under 4000 rpm so can easily be a daily drive. If you do lean towards M3 then go for the evo or evo3 if you can to get as I'd imagine they'd offer more of a bit challenge.
I had a cobra replica (chassis was exact) with cleveland & Aussie quench heads, I don't think i ever got close to its limits (it was a beast) but the thrill of driving it was amazing, much more thrilling than the M3 IMHO to own as a weekend car. By all account 964 sits somewhere between the two which should make it more exciting and less clinical than M3.

Good choice, great car I have owned two sport evolution e30 m3,loved them both, one had roll cage 276 bhp with schrick cams carbon airbox, short diff ratio etc,8200 rpm rev limit!! That car was as exciting as my 964 rs...
So a standard c2 or e30 m3 ,if you want feel and Motorsport heritage and practical I would buy e30,amazing car to track or drive on road, steering like you have never felt, and what a balanced chassis,if you want something to last forever and look stunning forever and give you a bit of a challenge to drive fast, buy 964!! My 2p worth
Can go wrong with either
