Default Help needed - hot air

Hi all
I am sure there is a post on here somewhere about this but I can't seem to find it.

I have control over the speed and direction from the heater unit but I can change the temp. I constantly have hot air.

Am I right in saying one of the servos under the bonnet may be stuck?

If so, any idea which one it will be?

Cheers lee

Yes, most likely one of your temp control servos is stuck or you have a torn heater tube under the dashboard. As for how to test? I would start with ToreB's web page. He outlines a good procedure for testing and isolating the problem

But DO take a look in both of your front footwells (to the sides under the dash, behind the carpet) to see if your main heater tubes are torn or otherwise open. They are only paper and after all these years they might be letting hot air in. I'd do that before digging into servos, simply based on the amount of effort required.

This is what mine looked like:

It was a total b*tch to replace though - it was both glued and butterfly clamped on and took a good hour of time to get the tube back on. It was pouring hot air right into the passenger footwell; wife's toes got a little toasty.

Driver side tube (PN# 96457252701) was $54, passenger side was $14.

Default a little tip

Great post. I have possibly a helpful tip.

If you encounter what you see above you will need to order the part which could take some time as it's an original part and not everyone carries it in stock meaning it would come from Germany and take a week or more.

If you don't want the heat in the interim you can use the Porsche oil filter removal tool 000-721-920-40-OEM (this is for 993 and 996 I believe). This fit right over the hole on the floor where the tube was (on the drivers side anyways) and I put a bolt through it (where the socket wrench would go) to keep the heat out for the time being. Not a great fix but will help out if you happen to have this in your arsenal.

This thread helped me out. Mine was torn and all servos working fine.

Regards,
Bryan
