http://www.elephantracing.com/suspen...trut-brace.htm

I know some of you were interested in these from a discussion a few weeks back, I dont recall where.

at any rate Elephant Racing now offers one for 964 and 993. Love their products, always top notch.

That's great they're making it available for the 964. But I'm still looking for this set up.

All very well if you ARE actually racing, but a major pita for normal use if say you need to use the spare wheel?

Looks good though

Glad you guys like it. The brace has a quick-release feature that allows tool-less removal and installation.

The bar is secured with ball-spring detent pins. Pull the pins and the bars come out for access to the trunk area. Here it is the 911 version in operation. 964 version works the same way:

I have mentioned this a few times after seeing the D Zug version and wondering abouot 964 fitment

This looks very nice, but how rigid is it, if you can just pull a few pins out to remove it?

So for UK folk

$580.00 plus approx $90.00 shipping

Then I would estimate around £100.00 por thereabouts duty/Vat at our end

I stand corrected re: access to the spare wheel etc, thanks for the video. I would also like to know about the effect on rigidity with the quick release system, I can only assume full checks have been carried out and proved successful - can you share any of the resultant data?

Re: the price, considering a set of rear lights is £600ish I think this isn't bad value considering the safety factor and assumed protection to the 964 tub

It does indeed look good but how noticeable would it be? ie if you drove back-to-back without knowing, one fitted, one without - could you tell the difference?

I can only speak for myself but factors such as safety, practicality and additional structural rigidity are a long way down my list with this...

At the top of said list is that it LOOKS flippin' awesome :-)

The quick release pins do not degrade the rigidity of the system. The entire brace is based on achieving rigidity through triangulation.

The following is excerpted from an explanation of the importance of triangulation in chassis design on our website here

Rigidity in chassis design is typically achieved through the shape of the structure. In most designs, triangulation is the basic tool for creating rigidity through shape. A simple example illustrates how triangulation creates rigidity through shape;

When forces are applied to a four-sided structure with corner pivots it can be easily forced out of shape. This structure is non-rigid.

By adding a diagonal member, connected corners are held at a fixed distance. They can't be spread apart or moved closer together. Despite pivots for corners, the structure cannot be be forced out of shape, and is rigid. Notice that the additional member has formed two triangles in the structure. This is called triangulation.

In the simple example the shape creates rigidity, not the strength of the material. Pivots in the corners ensure individual structural members are not subjected to bending loads. Structural members are placed in pure tension or pure compression.

In response to some comments on safety.....[lawyer mode] the 935 X brace is not designed or intended to be a safety device [/lawyer mode]

Very light. Single bar configuration weights 2.4 lb and x-brace weights 6.3lb. That's with pins and brackets included.
