New Magnus Walker Designed Wheels
#46
I posted my reply late night after a good party, never a good idea
What I should have typed is 'it is impossible to make a 2-3 piece aluminium wheel lighter than a single 1 piece forged wheel'
kieth, I think I was wrong, stress analysis tools have come a long way since the Fuchs wheel was born. I'm sure there is fat to be found in the petal area and a rolled rim profile should be lighter then the thick rim section on a Fuchs. That should save enough weight to offset the fixing bolts, if it doesn't then titanium bolts would get you there.
I've always been interested in wheel design and have seen a few created over the years. The two special wheel projects that I remember the most are a carbon car wheel a student who worked for me designed over 20yrs ago. The other was a F1 qualifying only wheel a good friend of mine designed, required working life was 12 laps, it lasted a few laps more before cracking and would turn into a egg shape if it saw a kerb, the rim thickness was only 1.9mm in magnesium.
Enough reminiscing from me, I much prefer the look of the hidden bolt wheel with the gold highlights, would like to see one with an RSR type finish

The wheels are cool, but it's difficult to pull off those types of wheels at 964 narrow body offsets.
It seems like folks have figured out really aggressive 18" wheel setups on narrow bodies, but it would be cool to see someone make that type of progress on a 17" wheel.

I like them, especially this one...
They would allow you to see more of big reds too.
