Default Someone tried to steal my car

So... Someone tried to steal my car last night. It was parked out front. My ignition is damaged so a key won't go in. The door lock is slightly dented but still works. I have the factory alarm. What the heck eh? You can screwdriver the door lock to get in? Or did he slim jim it?

I was saying yesterday to someone that I should get a lojack after seeing the thread in the 993 section.

That blows man. The good thing is that they did not drive off with it, the bad thing is that those locks are stupidly expensive. Last week, I asked Sunset Porsche for a quote on the ignition and door locks and they are $569.40 and $395.24ea respectively for coded locks.

Yup.

Stole mine, they slidehammered out the passenger door lock cyl, then just turning the remaining bit both unlocks the door and turns off the alarm and immobilizer, then got in the car jimmied the ignition (that part I can't figure out the ignition tumbler and wheel lock are in perfect condition and still work).

Anyway the thief drove off in the car. Having gone through this I found that a 964 is an easy car to steal. Get a LoJack. They have a lithium powered one that is good for 10 years for $295 and doesn't have to be wired in.

This makes me so angry...

Def time for a better theft deterrent device. Just make it difficult enough to move to the next car.

Damn sorry to hear that. It seems air cooled 911's are quickly becoming targets as their value rises. They are worth a lot in parts.

Good luck with insurance

Well I got most of mine back and it's got a new mission...

But you really need extra protection they get stolen more often than you think and normally meet some pretty sad ends...

This is my greatest fear in NY (along with poor drivers). I really wanted to get a Bear Lock (gearshift lock in Europe), but they dont make a set for out shifter assembly.

Get it sorted mate, sad to say I feel they will be back sooner or later.

I remove fuse No. 26 (Fuel pump) and the DME relay too when I don't use mine.

I know I've said it on here before, and I've fitted one to every special car I've owned - Get a removeable steering wheel boss. With the steering lock on and no wheel, the car isn't going anywhere unless they're packing a crane.

Which is what I planned to do... does your horn work? Which boss did you use Rob?

Frank, I asked Rob about this before in a thread and he has the old thick version of the hub in the picture.
BG are coming with a smaller version in June... Me & Dennis are on the waitinglist to get one when they are avilable.
If you check the web it is in the catalog but you cant buy it yet...but soon :-)

I think insurance will cover the locks. Most definitely getting the removable wheel boss - great tip! Relays out for good measure.

I followed your thread when it got stolen. Great to see it coming back together!

I'm surprised by how cleanly they got into my car. They definitely had a plan and were possibly close to succeeding.
