Default TrafficPro Navigation System

I am curious if any of you have installed the new Porsche TrafficPro Navigation System part #000 044 900 78 in your 964T. If you have where do you mount the GPS antenna? The radio has a stock DIN chassis so fitting it is no problem, but the GPS antenna needs to be mounted. I have seen it installed in the 996, but they have a small plate in the center front of the dash that the antenna can fit under.
Any ideas would be welcome.

There was discussion of this recently, I want to say on the 993 forum. You might try and see if the search engine is working, too.

Usual place for the GPS antenna is on top of the dash. Not used this system but the Becker is very good and, again, fits in the DIN aperture.

My car is fitted with SmartNav. Not sure if an equivilent is available in the Us. All you see is a single button. Press that and you speak to a real person in a control centre. Tell them your distination and a route is downloaded to the car. Directions are then spoken as you travel. If you go off route a new one is automatically calculated. The great thing about this is that it makes allowances for congestion and warns you of speed cameras. www.smartnav.com

Cheers

Thanks for the input, I found a thread on the 993 board so will see what I can glean from them.

Phil,

I understand that SmartNav warns you of fixed speed cameras. Does it do that even if you haven't asked them to calculate a route for you? i.e. is that a 'permanent' feature?

I've just bought an Origin B2 and, I'm afraid, am rather underwhelmed so far...

1. It came with a faulty power lead.
2. The laser module seems to be faulty.
3. It came with a faulty cradle - it's held into this by magnets which had been inserted the wrong way up during manufacture.
4. The buttons rattle remorselessly.

John,
Interesting to hear that. I have an Origin Blue which I bought about 4 months ago. Very happy with it but was disappointed to see the B2 come out soon afterwards - but looks like I was lucky that I didn't buy one of those.

You may want to look at an Ipaq with TomTom GPS. You can load a set of speedcamera waypoints into it. And you get an ipaq which maybe useful for something.

I bought a remote antenna for my Geodesy and mounted it with velcro sticky pads on rear parcel shelf. More details on the C4 PSH page of My Site
