1994 964 maintenance
I believe Andy Roe was referring to an oil change for 12 months/12K miles (although I believe its 15k miles). Valve adjustment is the big thing every 15K miles (labor wise). I have the maintenance book at home for my 1993, so I'll try to get back to you tomorrow...
If you have the driver's manual it says it there. If you don't have one I suggest obtaining one as its v useful.
You should service it every year, regardless of miles.
All oil, filters, plugs etc every year or 12k miles. Brake fluid every 2 years. Valve adjustment every 12k miles. Fuel filter 24k miles, tranny oil every 48k miles.
But as you see from above, not everyone agrees! I'd suggest talking to a local specialist as there are variances across countries/regions as well as oil type used and driving styles.

Here's my $.02 on 964 service:
Oil change every year, regardless of mileage. ~$8 for a filter and 11 quarts of your favorite oil if you do it yourself. I would assume most shops will charge an hour of labor for this service plus parts.
For USA cars, every 15,000 miles perform the following:
Oil and filter change
Plug change
Valve Adjustment
Air Filter Change
Fuel Filter Change
Both fan belts and A/C belt replaced
This service above can cost anywhere between $600 and $1500 (parts and labor) depending on your shop rates and how much you want to DIY. I respectfully disagree with the post above and I personally won't do this service every year (other than the oil change) since I feel plugs, filters and belts should not age that much over a few years if you do not put 15,000 miles per year on your car.
As mentioned before, the brake fluid should be flushed every 2 years regardless of mileage. This just cost me ~ $170 last month at my dealer.
Every 50,000 miles, the dual distributor belt should be changed. This can run about $170 - $200 or more depending on the shop performing the labor.
My dealer claims that at 60,000 miles, the transmission fluid should be changed. ~ $150+
I'm under my car every couple of months or so to check for fluid leaks and I pull my rims and tires to check the brakes at least annually (for a street driven car).
Regarding whether you have a dealer or an independent service your car, my local Porsche dealer is very good and has competitive pricing. I also get a 10% discount on service and 20-25% discount on parts from this dealer for being a PCA member. There is only one independent about 90 minutes away that I would trust. The other independent service shops won't get my business.
It all depends on the quality of the shop, it's managers and technicians. Some dealers are great, others are poor. Some independents are great, others suck. You have to assess each service place to see how competent they are and whether you trust them with your car.
Hope this helps,
Jay

Evdean,
I see you are from PA. I used Holbert Porsche in Warrington and have been absolutely delighted with the service and the PRICE (believe it or not). My 964 has been far cheaper to maintain than I would have ever guessed. My 964 is a daily driver. I change the oil every 7,500 miles (runs about $169, synthetic oil) The major service (every 15k) runs about $1000.00 with the oil change included.

For comparison, for $890 2 weeks ago I had 15K service (plugs, oil change, valves adjusted, new filters- only thing from Jay H's list not done was belts, since they were fine). In addittion, that price included a brake fluid flush, and A/C charge-up (1993, thus 134a freon) at Autohause in Chatham, NJ. Owner is Gene, and I have been going to him for 14+ years with all my past porsches as well (1978 911sc, then 1987 carrera). With my porsche, which has pretty much always been an 10+ year old car when I owned them, I literally trust him more than the dealer who it seems works more on the "current" model, not to mention the lower price from Gene. (the Porsche dealer also recently tried to rip me off when I did go there, but that's another story...)
By the way, with regards to Andy Roe's comment that the euro car has a service interval of 20K km (roughly 12.5K miles) vs the US book that says 15K miles, I think Porsche factored in that you guys drive your cars faster and harder.....but that may be an incorrect assumption- not that I go over the speedlimit haha
