Distributor housing separation
Hi guys,
I am stuck and can't believe it , I remove the distributor to change the belt , all went well , remove the primary shaft, remove the 5 Allen bolts , start to tap out to separate the housing and that was quite easy, but I stop as I am scared to damage the second shaft ,
How does this one come out ?!!?
Thanks

Hi Kos
Its a long time since I have replaced a belt but if memory serves me right the secondary shaft just sits in a bearing, so the upper section of the dizzy should just lift off! I think it is probably stuck together as a results of time.

There is (just) enough clearance to swing the two halves apart without needing to do anything or worry about the secondary shaft. It can stay in place. You may have to tap out the locator pin (small pin that aligns the two halves) all the way out to do so. I just did the belt job, and didn't need to touch the secondary shaft.

Hi guys,
I end up pushing one of the pins ( that align the 2 halfs) further with an old drill, just enough to clear and give me enough space to slide the new 8elt in , I wanted to put the distributor complitly a part to clean and grease everything... 8ut never mind,
To remove the 2 nd shaft ; the under cover need to 8e removed witch it's not an easy task,
anyway my 8earings looked find there are sealed so no worries for the grease I also grease well the 8ottom 8earing with red race 8earing grease,
I gave my gear to 8e pinned 8y my local engineering shop,
the old 8elt was ok just a 8it harder than the new one,
just wander why Porsche didn't fit coil packs, Audi from the same years had them,
the twin distriutor set up is pro8a8ly a drag for the engine performance
PS: sorry I using my 8 as a b my key 8oard is not working properly
