Yeah I hear you in this Frank, I'm the same, I like to save her for special days and have some days where it just tinkering in the garage on some little jobs equally satisfying.

I like it that the 964 is not seen as being flash, as said, not a trophy car, and definitely get the feeling people look on in appreciation which I'm sure you wouldn't get as much in a 991.

I like it that it's not easy as a modern car to drive and has quirks, and character. Also driving out my estate the other day some teenager walking with his back turned was looking over his should and had his camera phone pointing at the car as I went past, could go both ways here but sure this was in appreciation !

StuartQ's comments rang a chord with me.

I've never had a single car that I have not modified in some way. My first car was a 1978 Mini 850cc. My Dad and I totally rebuilt it (mainly because we had bought a pup and it was rusty as hell). After I smashed that up within 3 months I bought another Mini (more accurately my Dad bought me another one, bless him). Mini's love to be modified, probably the most modified car on the planet. One of my favourite cars was my Renault 5 GT Turbo. Big turbo, racing clutch, polished and ported head, etc. etc. I loved tinkering with it and driving it.

So whereas I have modified every car I've ever had, we rarely ever see an un-modified 964. We love to personalise them and make them into our own interpretation of the perfect 911. This makes them incredibly interesting cars, because almost each is unique.
