Would you buy this 964?
90 C2 black on black with 80K miles 2 owner car for mid $30Ks?
Clutch and flywheel has not been replaced, engine has never been resealed or rebuilt, chip on windshield, exterior/interior 9/10
Looks to be well maintained with full service history, drove strong but engine pan was wet with oil residue.
I'm trying to decide if I want to pony up the PPI or walk. Is this a reasonable deal? What should I be concerned about?
Thanks!

5 grand too much without seeing the car. Not to be redundant, but prices are crazy! Wow..My friend called me after seeing this 91 black coupe with 71k, sunroof, 5sp, 17 cup and aero mirrors last year on the side of the road in Dover MA. Lucky I guess. Owner wanted 13.5. Bought it for 12k. Bought new taillights, and was overfilled with oil is all that was done. What is that worth now? it needs a new sunroof headliner, had a so-so repaint before it was purchased, and needs ac work and has no tool kit or history etc. But runs fantastic with low grabbing clutch. No idea. But I think Mid 30k insane for that one mentioned above.

I want a 964 and I've been following the market for the last 2+ months.
You have given us too little information to make an informed opinion. For ex., is it a coupe? Are there 964s our there that are worth paying in mid-$30s? Probably. These would have to come with a detailed history, have records of all service history, have all upgrades, original paint, a genuinely rare color, etc.
However, the broad mass of cars that I've seen that fit your high-level description range from $25-$30. You might be lucky enough to find local examples at a slightly cheaper price

Sounds like the 91 GP white C4 coupe with higher miles for $26.5k I just decided to pass on. 9/10 inside and out but zero records and was leaking a lot of oil. Talked to the guy who I was going to have PPI it and soon figured I would have $40k into it once I resealed/rebuilt it oh and while you're in there how about a clutch. Not worth it to me at that price.

To original OP...Price may seem a little high, but if the car is straight and clean, mid 30's is a fair deal. These are not available that often, and the market is shifting fast! A year from now you will be in the money, given the car is honest. Good Luck?

Point taken. My concern is, let's say the PPI comes back positive with good compression and leak down numbers. I pull the trigger and six month down the line, the clutch/flywheel needs replacing and leaks get worse. Am I off base here? Remember that the car still has the original clutch/flywheel and the engine has never been resealed/rebuilt and has 80k miles. The seller has babied it was done all the scheduled maintenance though including adjusting the valve, etc.

It can break down tomorrow or go another 100K miles without any issues, what does your crystal ball say? Do your due diligence and then trust yourself to make the right decision.

Even with solid PPI results, anything can happen. It's a used car 20+ years old. A well sorted example is very special and worth the higher maintenance costs than a Camry. Just keep some $$ socked away for the surprises. Enjoy the ride.

In a way you have to trust your gut.
PPI's often over state a potential or existing problem with car, as they need to protect themselves.
I started looking 12 months ago in the US for C2 manual, found several that I liked the look of and all in the high $20's.
The 1st car was an Amazon Green car, looked fantastic was up for, I think $28500
The garage that carried out the PPI did a very thorough job.
I started a thread on it, and will give you a link as it might help you.
My conclusion after the PPI was that at best the car was worth $20k. The car was being sold on consignment and the owner would not accept less than $27k.
To cut a long story short, I didn't buy the car as it wasn't going to work for me, too expensive, especially once all the issues had been addressed.
What I didn't know at the time was that a fellow Rennlister Opo, owned the car.
He eventually decided not to sell (look him up he has a collection of Porsches inc several 964's).
Once he had the car back in his possession, he had it cleaned up etc and it looks like a completely different car.
I eventually found the car that suited me a LHD C2 in the UK of all places.
Best of luck with you research and searches, you'll find one in the end.
