I've dreamed of welded seams, for years now Just doing some early investigation, and considering options. The magic number being 25 years here in the states. That's still 2-3 years out, but learning takes time How's it going Kai?

Pervy, wll the COA give actual build date along with the options etc??? Thanks!

You could get a cherry RS and then gut it, cage it and make a race car!!!!!!!!

(snows here for a while, your goodies are still sitting in the shop)

didnt think you could order a Japanese RS without VIN stickers! this is the strangest thing ever heard of!

Are you sure this is not a seller hiding the car being repainted...? Quite a few Japanese RS cars who have landed in EU lately have seen the bodyshop for "restoration works" before being offloaded to the EU market.

Don't know. I've been told there was a sticker delete option that exists. I will need to do more digging on this. Was told all paint work is original based on paint meter readings done of all panels. I do know it was a Japanese delivered car based on the VIN number and know it was a very lightly optioned Lightweight. Anyone else with knowledge of sticker delete option? TIA

I am now being told that the ROW cars (which the RS is) did not come with the VIN sticker on the B pillar area under the "engine release" pull. Can any of you RS owners verify if this is true. My guy is saying he has never seen one. This is the sticker on the North American delivered cars that shows VIN, build date, emissions requirements etc. He says this was only placed on the North American cars, nor the ROW cars. Again TIA for any light you learned folk can shed on this.

Cheers

Chris, I've e-mailed Martin who runs the 964RS database and asked him to get in touch with any help he can give you.

Many Thanks Steve, he has reached out.

Does your car have a VIN build date sticker on the latch side of the door by chance?

Nothing on my C2 but it's an early car so misses a lot of stuff e.g. it doesn't have the VIN on the A pillar like later cars do.

Check these 2 RS out...it has every single original stickers still in! That should help:

Note: no build date on the stickers, just VIN and options

Thanks 911Thrasher. This does help. The sticker in the door you are referring to is that thin paper sticker that looks to be a bar code with the VIN on it. I am told that indeed is in tact on the passenger side, in this case RH side. Apparently can't see it very well because it's ink has worn down and faded. The plate in the boot is the one that is not there. In both your examples that plate is rivitted showing VIN and other info but no build date. I think this is the delete option on this car. The VIN does show up on the chassis and the A pillar too, so maybe there is something to the delete option. I am told it happened a quite a bit on Japanese cars.

Here in the states there is a large VIN sticker on the LH side (driver door frame) with all kind of information including build date.

Anyone else with info on this ? Many Thanks!!!

BTW, what is that low miles Rubystone car going for? Wow!!! Gorgeous....

as far as i know, ROW cars do not have the sticker inside drivers door.
I have a RS, fully original, no stickers there
only on the hood and right door jamb

in europe every Porsche dealer can enter the VIN in his system.
even the spare parts guy has acces to it
they get the build info from every car build after 1989.
but it does not really give build date but sold and invoice date
also all options and warranty problems are noted on this

kind regards

Hans
