Okay, $1100, TWO cases of microbrew and a plane ticket...and we're set!

I don't ask for much, do I?
Who said anything about plane tickets? I got the impression that you don't fly. Besides, You can pick-up Horst on your way to California. I think Horst & I have something in common......H&K, SIG, Colt, Browning, Beretta.

But if you do make the drive, instead of microbrews I'll get you guys some premium Japanese Cold Sake (strong enough to fuel your Toy)!!!

I don't offer much, do I?

Ah-ha! Mooooooore SAKI!! I used to frequent a Japanese restaurant back home that had a cook who was NUTS! He cracked me up...used to SCREAM "MORE SAKI!!" while pouring it on the food.

Anyway, if you own all those P-shooters, you and Horst would get along well.

I went truck shopping today, just to validate this thread...we talked about HD Suspension on the F250s!

Man, for 6K more you can get a PowerStroke Diesel from HELL and a 5-spd. automatic...awfully tempting...but for a guy who might be out of a job next week??

I looked up the H&R suspension through Performance today...uh, er...$3600!!

So that's $720 off with 20% discount...SO...now I have to charge $1580 for my old setup!!

Man, I need to rob a bank or something - I'm sure you guys aren't going to fall for this "new math"??

Either Horst or I can lend you a p-shooter and my Math is not that rusty yet.

You mentioned that the H&R Performance springs you have are for RSA. Is that correct? I've checked the catalog and the spring rate for C2 Front 190-255 and Rear 250-265 vs. RSA Front 250-275 and Rear 270-295. What are the advantages of using the RSA springs with the Bilstein HD. Will the ride comfort suffer because of the higher spring rates? Thanks!!!

Regards,

I would guess yes, however the ride in Jeff's car is not objectional. Leave it for him to answer definitively. My guess is that tonight he is engrossed in a love fest with a new chevy. Why a Chevy? Bad judgement. He should have gotten a F-150 with the 5.4 & towing package. Oh well. You can never tell kids anything....

Jeff - you need to look at a more comprehensive suspension for 3K - Moton 2x clubsports. this compined with adjustable plates and new springs would yeald a better setup for the track
my 2 Cents

Okay, let's clear a few things up...I am having a love fest with an F250 Super Duty, Power-Stroke diesel and the six-spd overdrive Allison transmission!!

Not sure who makes the trans. but it seems to have the same features as the Duramax Diesel setup in a 2500HD (Chevy) and I don't think Ford would manufacture this trans.

I messed with the Ford dealer so bad that they eventually called me back up and offered almost $10,000.00 off the price of the F250...a FAR better deal than the 2500HK at 35K...I got the F250 with a neat "XLT Sport" option that has carbon fiber door panel inserts and center console, two-tone cloth "sport" seats and a color-keyed front/rear bumper...dark grey metallic and just plain TOUGH looking! ...for a FLAT 30K - I just couldn't justify trying to beat that.

Simple enough, I know I need more towing capacity as I plan to purchase a 20-24' enclosed trailer here soon...sick of watching everyone pull up at the track, dump their car out and drive...I have to unload everything from the back of the pickup, including jacks, tires, etc. because I usually stay in a hotel and don't want this stuff to come up MISSING!!

Also, I like how most people with enclosed setups drive their car up into them each evening and SHUT the door.

Yup, I went for broke...why not??

Peter, sorry...when I get home from work I drop DEAD at times.

I will email you the part# as soon as I log off of HERE.

As for ride comfort with the RSA spring rates...NOT an issue at all, after all they are progressive springs and ensure that you read my "writeup" on them a few threads back, they can take the heat when you PUSH on them to perform, otherwise they're relatively smooth and provide a decent ride.

Now, LINEAR springs are a different story!! They are RIGID and start working at the slightest hint of taking a load.

Again, that's MY story...and I'm sticking to it!

Jeff: congrats on making a good choice in trucks. Now you can retire, join AARP & tow an Airstream.

What a silly I am! Gee Jeff, I TOTALLY forgot to mention to you the last time we spoke of trucks: Ford is desperately trying to dump these, because in Sep they are doing a complete re-design of the F-250! It will have a hydroformed frame (70% stiffer) standard Bilsteins, and a turbocharged 5.0 diesel with 5 more mpg, towing capacity about 8K lbs; Recaro sport seats, CD changer with sattlite radio and a few other things for the same list price as the current model

Update to this thread:

After contemplating between Koni, Bilstein, H&R, and Eibach. I've decided and purchased, from Performance Products, the exact same setup as Jeff's. HD Bilsteins + H&R RSA springs for $916.60. Saved myself $229.15 with the 20% discount.

Thanks Jeff, Horst and everyone for their inputs.

Regards,

PS. Sorry Ruairidh for hogging your thread!

Yeah, thanks Horst for making me feel SO GOOD about my purchase!??

FYI, the engine I have is 6.0L and can tow about 12,000lbs!

The 5 spd w/overdrive trans. is a HOOT, it bangs through the gears under load like an F1 car down the straights...okay, maybe not that fast!

I saw a new F250 in the back, as I had asked the salesman about them after reading what you wrote.

I have sport seats and some other goodies, some of those little things are what sold me on the F250 XLT Sport package. I would NOT say that these are better trucks whatsoever, it was purely $$$$$$$$ and cosmetics that sold me, coupled with the fact that this is one helluva tow package!

I'll give the "Found On Road Dead" marque a try for a few years, I like it so far...we'll see.

SO, Ruairadh, have you decided what you're going to do about a suspension upgraded as of yet?? ...inquiring minds wanna know!

Hi Jeff, no I haven't decided. Other things have intervened to take my eye off the ball. I'm not sure I'd go with the RSA set up on this car, as Adrian has repeatedly said suspension and handling are real subjective and I'm not sure I want the stiffer set up. At least without a proper try out. I'm going to have to have someone put it in for me (I lack your and Horst skills) and so I'm nervy about taking a punt given the cost of fitment. So please do not wait for me to decide what to do with yours - although I really appreciate your offer.

As for your new Fix-Or-Repair-Daily, sounds good. You asked who made the transmission - if it is an Allison then why wouldn't that be made by Allison transmissions? - the subsidiary of GM , which might also explain the similarities between that and the Chevvy unit.

Hey Jeff, have you seen the thread on the 993 board regarding the enclosed trailer for sale?

No Ruairadh, I haven't seen the thread regarding an enclosed trailer, will have to look that one up later tonight.

...thanks for the tip!

My suspension will officially be on the "selling block" in a few days...looks like I've found a deal on what I need to get on the road with a stiffer setup.

FYI Ruairadh and others...the 965 H&R springs coupled with Bilstein HD shocks are not in any way a HARSH ride, no no, far from it. Also, keep in mind that these are progressive springs and only have a 20-30 lb increase in stiffness in each corner OVER the stiffness of a 964 spring setup!! ...this is not much, whatsoever.

I'll offer the setup here first, and the sale is contingent on a current deal that I'm working...which seems like a no-bones sale.

Ruairidh is right about the Allison tranny...GM product made by Allison Transmissions out of Indianapolis. No way is that in a Ford. Sounds like the dealer "oversold" the truck!
