$150K RS America!

I've owned many many long hood 911's, ve watched that market go completely ballistic over last 5 years. Last S I considering buying was $100k and decided that was too much money, even through it was priced under market, probably a $250k car today. I personally would not pay over $60k for a RSA but the market has been very strong lately - a few really nice ones changing hands for $125k +, glad I never sold my US cup.

It's not like they put some 50hp X kit in the RS. It's 10hp more than a C2, and an RSA, with the advantage of not driving a power steering pump over the C2 is somewhere in between (lets say 5hp less than a RS).
That being said, humans and chimpanzee share more than 98% of their DNA, yet a chimpanzee is not a human.
This is about rarity, desirability and marketing, not about the difference between models. Yes we would all love to have an RS, then an RSA, then a C2 or maybe a C4. (yet no one should be forced to drive a tiptronic)
Go to a no reserve auction where you can get a $100,000 car for 75k, because no one was bidding against you or one where a $75k car goes for $100k because ten people in the room had to have it, and you will see the wonderful principle of supply and demand at work.
RSA owners LOVE their cars and rarely (and reluctantly) part with them, where many buyers would love to have their hands on one.
One very good example sold for $125k in 2013.
To misquote David Hannum: There's a classic Porsche buyer born every minute.

a 150k rsa, why not buy a 4.0 at 400, it's rarer, faster and much better car.
i used to think 3.8RS nd 4.0RS are close. well.... a long 800 mile was conducted... NO EVEN close.
4.0 for sale $650,000. pm me ;-)

As I'm sure you're aware, there are FAR more differences than 10hp between RS and RS America. Suspension, seam welding, wheels, brakes, interior, glass etc go into making the RS. Remember too that the LHD 964 RS is not equipped with power steering either.
The 964 RS America is a wonderful car in its own right but I can't help but think its current feeding frenzy has much to do with the letters R and S and some thinking it's somehow associated with Motorsport models. It's not.
And btw, I am NOT a 964 basher. I am VERY actively looking for one and have had a few slip away. One of them had "RS" in its model name. Deep regrets about that car.

I want proof of any 6 figure RSA sale. I have seen many ask but never have I seen proof of a sale. I can't imagine an RSA being more valuable than my turbo, sorry it is a relatively high production car with a few items deleted from a C2 it should bring 10-20% more than a comparable C2 tops and anyone who spends more is a nit and will never see anything but a loss after the bubble bursts. I know of a comparable C2 in mileage condition and color sell recently for $46k and that is about as high as I have seen them sell for.
The Air cooled market is going crazy but the 964 is slow at increasing compared to the others, If you want to collect, rarity dictates and their are many other rare models with far lower production numbers like the C4 widebody and America Roadster that should command a premium over an RSA and they are still in the $50-60's with the occasional rare ultra low mileage mint example bringing more. Only the 3.6T's are commanding these dollars here in the US and only for the right car the Turbo S's on the other hand have gone through the roof with so so examples asking $300k.
I agree this car is a beauty and has the one option that IMO makes it a great car..... sun roof delete if you are desperate to find a pristine RSA with sunroof delete than buy it but this is a $70-80k car tops and some day it might bring 6 figures but that day is not today. Too bad it has A/C and radio.
Ask all you want but $150 seriously!!! I wish the seller the best and I mean him no disrespect but these asking prices are getting a bit out of control.

Do you think people cross shop low-mile RSA's with GT3 RS's? Because speed and handling are the only real considerations when buying cars, especially 911's, right? That's like saying you looked at a '73 911 S but went with a E92 M3 instead because it's faster.

And now I see what may even be more hilarious over on the 911 Forum: http://tinyurl.com/kws2yst
(But at least those cars had hollow intake valves or something, right?)

Yeah, the clubsport is a very similar example of paying more for less. Just a stripped model in low production with some special bits. I wouldn't mind having one though.
