Question Replacement CV Boots: OEM or aftermarket?

Are the aftermarket CV boots okay, or should I stick with OEM? I remember reading a while back that the OEM's are much more expensive but last a lot longer. The search function doesn't seem to pick up the old threads.

One of mine just busted, so I was going to have them all replaced while I was at it.

Thanks for any info.

Drew,

There was just discussion on this on the PCA web site (technical discussion), under 964's. Net someone used aftermarket CV's and they died very early. Recommendation was pay a bit more for the more stout Porsche boots.

I had to use whatever the hell a race team had for me a few weekends ago at the PCA Club Race in Iowa...they looked the same but didn't have a 928 part# on them.

Oh well, if I blow one out early...yous guys will be da first ta know!

They showed me what I SHOULD be using, an aftermarket silicone based CV boot that's supposedly used on the GT cars??

Pretty neat, but about $50 each!

Have fun replacing it...it's a DAMNED MESSY job!!

I have pics if you need them.

Had mine done when i bought the car, OEW cv boots ran to GBP20 for the pair.

As some people have mentioned here, sometimes the oem parts can be cheaper, worth checking both if there is little price difference go with oem.

Replaced my CV boots not long ago and did a little research. Brumos Porsche sells the Kit for $80. Same kit through Vertex is $20. Both are made by the company LOBRO and are identical. Same part number and same components in the box. I was able to change all 4 for the price of one Porsche kit.
