Default HELP! 964 not starting...

Symptoms:
Last few weeks, once or twice a week (mainly at night leaving work when cold out), go to start car and get a loud whine/buzz sound when I try to it. It would start after one or two tries.
This evening, when I got in to start car, just made a "spinning" sound, no attempt at ignition, no buzzing sound.
Battery doesn't seem to be the issue - just get a mechanical spinning sound (best I can describe it) - no clicking sounds.
I'm guessing bad starter motor?
Thoughts?
Luckily I was able to borrow a car to get home - but will likely have to have her towed to my indie tonight...

Thanks for any insight!

Based on your description, I wonder if you have teeth missing on your flywheel? It sounds like your starter motor is running, but not engaging with anything.

True.
Maybe solenoid?
I remember reading a post about a whirring sound when trying to start a 996 or Boxster, can't remember...

Starter prob worn out, and not coming out to grab teeth on flywheel. As common as a ****ty ex wife. I had same deal about a year ago. Go buy a reman Bosch starter for short money and slap her in. Take you about a hr. Easy job.

And the verdict is...

Starter motor - had it replaced and I'm off to the races again! Starter was going from day one. Starts up sooo much better now! opted for a new one with warranty and due to timing (they had one in stock!)

Thanks for the help! Happy motoring.

When I replaced my stater the car spun over like it was on crack. So fast. Such a huge difference.
