Its good stuff, however it lacks the context needed for our air-cooled engines which place totally different demands on oils compared to water-cooled ones.

Here is one example:
Concern: People are worried about the SM oils not having as much ZDDP as the SL and older oils. The reason ZDDP has been used for years is not because of its superior performance but rather its low cost and dual function as an antioxidant. It also has anticorrosive properties.

There are other additives. Some newer oils do not have any ZDDP, and they are excellent products. Just the same, I prefer oils with ZDP for now. The research shows that 0.03 is all that is needed and has the same function as higher levels. The only reason to have more is because your engine is consuming the ZDDP secondary to borderline lubrication from oil alone.
ZDDP is an excellent EP additive for engines that NEED more than .03ppm. While I'm sure not qualified to say what Ferrari or Lamborghini engines require, I can tell you that air-cooled 911 motors need a bare minimum of 1100ppm of both Zn & P. 1200-1400 is better. Some newer API SM & SN oils are indeed good products, but not recommended for the air-cooled cars.

Caveat Emptor when deciding how such articles will apply to what you drive.

Listen to an experienced 911 engine builder as he will have that garnered the long-term knowledge of what to use and what to avoid.

I think I will stay with the Penrite 15w 50 +10 (in zink) full syn I changed from the mobile 1 15w 50 because you can only get it in OZ at a few places and its a 100 bucks for 5 liters The Penrite is half the price and carrys more zink and the 964 seems to be very happy.

A Ferrari?

I admit looking at adding a 308 at some point... until I realized I'd also have two cars to maintain in the same time.

In any case I'll stay with the Brad Penn stuff as long as my supply lasts. Then switching to the 15w50 Mobil 1.

Not taking the Ferrari info as we cool with oil and they cool with water. I know what works for my engine after two rebuilds.

We really need zinc, phosphorus & sulfur in oil for our engines, or at least if we track the car
