964 ('92) and head gasket
I wanted to know from you experts if an early build '92 (built 7/91) had the corrections from the factory - in terms of using a head gasket. I read/know that early 964's had engine failures due to no head gasket, oil leaks, and resulting pulling apart of head studs.
I know the '93 and '94 were built with gaskets.
Thanks for the info.

Porsche implemented the cylinder head modifications in the 1991 model year. It started a few months after the production run. All '92s will have this installed, and so will most 1991 models (but the engine serial number needs to be checked for clarification).

You need to check the VIN of this 964. This has nothing to do with the head gasket by the build date it is fitted but the date you have given is a 1991 model year build date. The 10th digit of the VIN needs to be checked.
The standard model year runs from 01 Aug to 31st July.
The broken studs issue has nothing to do with the head gasket issue. This still happens on all the Porsche air cooled engines occassionally with or without the head gaskets. Oil weeps was the issue related directly to removal of the head gasket in the early engines. The engine operated at higher than planned temperatures and hence the problem.
