Default 964 DMI/Fuel Pump Relay Replacement $32.95

I just bought a new DMI relay for my 1990 C2 thru AutoZone. It has a lifetime warranty on it!!! $32.99. Part# is 20639. Item # is 788873 . Description is Duralast Accy Relay. I plugged it in and my car is running perfect again. It was cutting off while you were driving. It actually acted a lot like a vapor lock. I think my fuel pump is getting tired and caused it to fail. The date code on the old one indicated it was made the month before the car was built. 10/89. So much for the originals being faulty! I just ordered a spare for the glovebox. It plugs into the R41 receptacle on my car which is in the relay and fuse box under the forward bonnet(hood), on the passenger side up high under the carpet. 2 quick release clips and you are in. Pull the old one straight up. There is a list of all fuses and relays on the inside of the cover, and this one is clearly listed as DMI relay. Happy motoring!

Curious why a fuel pump could cause the relay to go south? Do you suspect the pump is beginning to draw too many amps?

Yes, that is my suspicion. I'm getting a buzzing sound up in the forward luggage area where the tank is. And I know the fuel pump is right underneath up there. I have heard other people say that their relay went out right before the fuel pump quit.
