964 vs. 997

Of them all I drive the 964 the most. Wonderful car.
997S cab is great with the top down, otherwise too smooth (and way too fast for normal roads).
GT3RS way too much car on street and too rough/lowd. Keep it for track duty.
73 911T is a blast but kinda scared I gonna get hit or have it stolen. Too hard to come by these long hoods anymore.
964 for the win.

Well, I suppose this is the rest of the story .....
After being rather unimpressed with the '07 911 I drove on Friday, I made arrangements to look at a 2007 BMW M5 today - 38K, 6MT (no SMG tranny on this one!), grey/black, pristine condition. All service records, virtually new Michelin Sport Pilots and a spare set of new brake rotors. V10 putting out slightly over 500 HP. A VERY impressive automobile. Subject to a clean PPI, I will be in possession of the car later this week.
So I might have sold one M5, but I got another - with 20+ years of automotive technology and right at double the horsepower of my old 1988 car. The electronics and complexity of this E60 car concern me a bit but the wail of the V10 really is rather intoxicating. And the fuel consumption is rather staggering. Time will tell if I made the right choice.
Here's hoping the C2 and M5 play well together.

Wow you have owned my dream BMW - 1985 BMW M635CSi.
I have a similar two car setup to what you have now. I have a 1990 964 C4 and my daily driver is a 2008 Audi S6.
The S6 has about 70 less HP over the M5 but I live in Vancouver so the 4 wheel drive really helps with the winter months.

I've never owned a turbo, and don't care to. In the first place, I'm old and don't need to go that fast. Also, I'm afraid the thing would break - hard! - and I couldn't afford to fix it. I still prefer the NB cars - and understand I'm probably in the minority with that opinion.
The 500+ NA ponies in the M5 will be plenty for me, thank you very much. Picking it up in Atlanta tomorrow morning. It's going to be a good Thanksgiving this year. And the Fuchs wheels for the 964 are presently in transit from Germany, too!

if you look around the turbos are pretty reliable if not flashed and not beaten. I went from a 964 to a 996tt and honestly couldn't be happier. love both cars and miss the 964. who knows maybe a 964 in the future but happy now.

It is a very very very fast car and better handling than the S6. Definitely more of a sports car than the S6. If it wasn't for the 6 months of rain and occasional snow that we have here in Vancouver I would have purchased it instead of the S6.
I am an old fart too and the V10 in the S6 is intoxicating. I am now into my 4th year of ownership and I still smile everytime I hit the accelerator and hear the rumble from the V10.
I used to own a BMW 335i Cabio and while the turbo engine was fast the power comes on in a different way. With the S6 you feel the grunt and rumble.
As they say - "there is no replacement for displacement".
You will really enjoy the M5 it is a great car. You better buy some shares in oil companies though.

The problem is that you joy ride too many cars. I know many people that never test drive before they buy their Ferrari/Lamborghini. Perhaps the lack of cash in hand is THE problem.
