Question 964 Production numbers

Does anyone know the official production numbers of all 964s? I realize posters on this site are from all around the world, but is there a breakout of 964s sold in the US available too? Searched the net, and I couldn't come up with anything (although I did have 911 production figures from 1995 on )

Thanks!

Andrew

Guys,
I can tell you that all the numbers posted above are inaccurate. There is no official count either from the factory due to the large number of different limited editions built. I can tell you that in model year 1990 the number of cabs imported into the USA exceeded 673. The Speedster numbers are also wrong. The other issue not taken into account in many books is that many US versions were sold in Europe and never exported and many US versions were delivered to other countries like Taiwan direct.
Ciao,
Adrian

Wow- I know these numbers may be off a little as Adrain points out, but they are a little lower than I would have thought! I know from a Ferrari book I have, for comparison, that total Ferrari 355 unit production (worldwide) is a little over 11,000 units from 1994-1999, roughly the same period of time as the 964 (1989-1994)... Granted, the 964 figures are "US only" (with differences in actual numbers per Adrian) vs. 355 worldwide, but I see a lot more than 2 964s on the road for each one 355 I see! (of course, Porsche drivers get more miles on their cars and thus are on the road more )

Well, thanks for the info.

Does anyone know the total worldwide 964 production?? I was curious about that in addition to US-only car production figures...

Thanks a lot-
Andrew

Dear Andrew,
Total allocated VINs exceeded 57,000. How many actually came out of the door is believed to be in excess of 54,000. The numbers found in certain books (as per earlier posts) are the allocated VINs for a model run. This is only an indication of how many were planned to be built and not how many were actually built.

Adrian,

You seem to be the go-to-guy when it comes to production numbers. I have bought your "Enthusiasts Companion" which indicates that the 1992 964 Turbo had 756 ROW and 289 USA (for a total of 1045). I need to prove to my insurer that there were less that 1500 1992 964 Turbo's produced world wide. In addition to your book, is there any other place that I can source this information?

I don't think Adrian has posted in a couple of years. I don't know if anyone else has any thoughts (there are lots of other smart people here). I don't think you will get anything difinitive out of Porsche. Curious...what are you trying to do?

I remember conversing with Adrian on some small details for his book (my car is pictured in the book) and based on what I remember and what he went through on publishing that book, I would bet that his book is probably the closest published source on how many cars were produced.

Another writer who seems to have very good inside information on Porshe is Karl Ludvigsen. I'd see what you can find in his writings...

Certainly Porsche must know by VIN how many were sold each year? I doubt this is a state secret...

Any idea what happened to Adrian? I was going through a bunch of old threads and saw him posting quite a bit. Then all of a sudden it just stopped. I looked around for some type of farewell post couldn't find anything.

Wow, I really kick started this thread again. If I can prove international production numbers are less that 1500 for my 92 964 Turbo, then I qualify for Collector's Status Insurance here in British Columbia, Canada. It is a significant discount.

Unfortunately the feedback form on his site doesn't work, and there is no PM or email option attached to his profile. Can anyone forward the question to Adrian on my behalf?
