Default Backfire after changing the bottom plugs

My C4 runs rough and backfires after changing the bottom plugs today.

I replaced the square catalytic converter gasket and the backfire is coming from that area. Should I use an exhaust sealant with this gasket?

Spent all day doing this - my first time. Also changed the gearbox and diff oils. I'm filthy and tired. Rapid responses would be really appreciated.

Sorry if you already read this on Smartgroups.

It sounds like the gasket is not doing its job. I would suggest that you NOT use any type of sealant. Did you use a new gasket? Did you use new nuts and bolts, too? If so, what torque did you use to reconnect the exhaust?

Roly,

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure you got all the wires right?
