964 Purchase - Lessons learned

A day or so later I took the car into the mechanic for a pre track check. I got a call later that day to tell me that the engine shouldn't be run until they identify the noise source. When they took off the cam covers they found........tissue paper. Somehow, I had left some in the oil lines and it had gone straight to the engine. The fine galleries to the cams had blocked.
Both cams would need to be replaced and so would six rockers. Plus the engine would have to be dismantled and the whole oil system cleaned out. Time to put on my big boy pants.

well, this might make you giggle...... back in 1980, I went to a Pub to watch "Midnight Oil' - a growing in popularity band that went on to make it big time in australia. As it was in a pub, the music was so loud, it was splitting my head open - so.... went into the bathroom and got some toilet tissue paper off the roll, rolled it into some small bits and put it in my ears. It did the job and quieten the music down enough. (yes, you know this is coming....) - 6 months later, i was at the doctors for a really sore throat and while I was there, he checked my ears (as you do). He asked me if I have any trouble with my hearing. No, says I - why? Well, he said as he extracted said piece of paper with an almighty 'pop' - this might have something to do with it. Yes, it was the bit of toilet paper from the pub - looking really waxy and horrible. Sure heard better after that

Glad you have the car sorted. Two things to mention. Colin at NeinMeister has replacement seals for the PDAS locks. And my car's clutch pedal was a problem. too. The angle was off about 20 degrees. I replaced mine and its working as it should.
