Default Need help on exhaust

I have an 1989 C4 with 3.6. I am trying to figure out what is the best exhaust setup. Currently it was totally stock, i removed secondary muffler and like the sound and performance. I also see primary muffler bypasses which I assume would use the secondary muffler as silencer. I know my cat should be replaced but i want to understand what is the best route to go. I don't want anything unreasonably loud but i do enjoy the growl. What route should i pursue? Thanks in advance for the help.

my set up is fabspeed cat bypass, primary bypass, and stock secondary. I love the way it sounds, and so does everyone who hears it. Not expensive to do either.

Thanks Eric for the response. I did search a few times well before this post but I could not find exactly what i wanted. When you search for 964 exhaust or exhaust (or many others) you come up with thousands of posts that I never seemed to find the answer on. I did learn how to diagnose my cruise control problems though. I will continue searching.

tried all options with standard headers, and ended up with: cat bypass and secondary muffler delete. it's perfect to me. Loud, but not headache loud. And it has a lower tone than first muffler delete.

Gabassin,
There are fans of either the primary or secondary bypass. Some don't like the deeper, woof-woof sound of the secondary bypass. That's personal, both definitely liven up the 964 experience. I read quite a few posts were people thought the secondary bypass and a cat bypass was rather loud and switched to a primary bypass. Since you mentioned it above, I thought I would add that into the mix.

I love the sounds from my primary bypass, the sound was made so much better when I added a cat bypass. A little louder, but much more mean and gruff sounding (especially when starting a cold engine!). There was also increased mechanical noise (valves), since the big heat shield is removed when the cat bypass was added. Sounds very race 911 to me, but not too loud for the neighborhood or my kids in the backseat. But get pass 4000 or floor it and boy does it roar!

I happened to have a couple recent clips from my phone, sorry about the quality but gives you an idea of how it sounds in the neighborhood.

From a performance perspective, that's a perfect package for street cars.

Race cars, OTOH, are totally different and there are better solutions for those vehicles,...

the difficulty is to get rid of the dip in the torque curve (also find in the BHP curve) between 4700 to 5700 rpm witch the cup & bypass would generaly give ....this is also exactly where you need the top power torque to be...
at 107 db it sound not so much restrictive, but it probably still is
