Never ran the PS2's but I'm quite satisfied with HTRZ-III's. Currently have about 25k on the Sumi's. My previous tires were Pirelli PZero's.
Comparing the HTRZ-III with the PZero's - HTRZ's have less road noise and much less tramlining. Equal grip and same predictability before breaking traction. Ive had the car on track at Auto Club Speedway & Laguna Seca (as seen in my avatar coming down the corkscrew) for non-competitive but spirited events and they held quite well. I have never done any AutoX on the Sumi's but the PZero's had lots of AutoX time and I corded them.

why drive a porsche if you are looking for the best treadwear tyre?
i had some nice chinese 400 treadwear tyres on my 964 .... on the track, the car was slower than my previous poorly setup 924.

I have Pilot Super Sports and they are amazing and supposed to last 25% longer than comparable tires. I had HTRZ-III on my 993 and they where nice, but for a little more I would go with the Michelins every time.

Well you didn't specify a size. But I'd recommend going to a site like Tire Rack, selecting the sizes you want by matched set, then sorting by UTQG.
For example, in 205/50/17 & 255/40/17, the new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 has a treadwear rating of 500, while the Continental Extreme Contact DWS is rated at 540. Both have an A temperature grade (can withstand sustained speeds over 115 mph). The Michelins have a traction grade of AA while the Continental is rated A. The Continentals are W speed rated, while the Michelins are available in Y.
Then there's the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics, also with 500 treadwear and the same temperature and traction ratings. The A/S Plus are Y speed rated while the Goodyears are W rated.

Depends on how many miles you put on the car. For me, the tires will be too old to use before they wear out. I have Summitumos now and will probably another set soon even though they have lots of tread but are 6+ years old.

To what use will the car be put? I chose Bridgestone RE970s for my C4 for the following reasons:
1. Have snow tires on other rims.
2. More comfortable than UHP summer-only rubber.
3. Longer lasting than UHP summer-only rubber.
4. C4 has too much grip as it is; lower limit=more fun (for *me*).
5. Great in the rain.

Two big questions for you-
1 How many miles do you drive per year? In other words, will you even be wearing down a 60,000 mile tire by the time that they are too old to drive on (8-10 years max)?
2 What climate are you driving in? Rain? Light snow? Heavy snow? Ice? Dry and sunny?

BTW, unless you are at the extreme edge of the performance envelope of a stock 964 on the street the DW is probably more tire than you could ever hope to use IMO

Now responding to the original poster...who cares about tread wear. Sports cars are meant to sport tires that help it handle better not tires that last longer.
