Default What size headers for a 3.6?

ok, there's a million variables and tradition suggests 1.75" od for max hp however, for a real world 3.6 with stock intake and nothing fancy planned does 1 5/8" give better mid punch? who knows this stuff? i don't see it in my search.

Stock cammed 3.6? 1 5/8" headers work best.

Race engines get 1 3/4" or stepped headers since they will see 8K RPM.

It is highly unlikely that I would like to "see 8K RPM", thank you very much. What I should like to see is 4K RPM turn into 6K RPM as quickly as possible. And I would like to see it happen faster than my friends' cars, especially my friends' 911s. After which I would like to do that again and again and again for about 100 to 200 thousand miles without hearing any boom/crash type sounds followed by crunching, banging and grinding noises.

So, Steve, thank you for your perspective. It sounds appropriate for my "application". If there are other views they would be welcome of course.

With that objective in mind, I'd kindly suggest the RS LWF flywheel & clutch kit as well as good performance software.

There are many other things that can help you put the big "pass" on your buddy's 911S, however these are the most cost-effective first steps toward that objective.

Ha! It's important to have a clear understanding of your intended goals prior to starting a project.

Funny you should say that because it isn't what comes up first in most threads regarding bang vs buck. But, it's high on my list because of my interest in throttle response. Engine/tranny drop and all it must be $2k or more though, eh? Yet still it ranks as "most cost effective" and "first steps"?
