So if you were following me I am dealing with a dead DME right now.
Just a quick recap...
Bought a sensor from company 1 (a Pcar specialist) who buys them in large stacks from company 2 (general auto parts supply for manufactureres and dealers)
Turns out sensor was damaged (short circuit) and by installing it I killed my DME.
C1 says it aint their fault, C2 is very large and will say the same. So I agreed on 50/50 payment with C1 since a lawsuit would take ages...![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Now C1 quoted me with a !820€! repair price (before 50% off, so it will be around 410€ left for me) for a damaged main voltage converter + IC. Just wanted to check if that's in the ballpark.
C1 won't tell me the company that is actually doing the DME repair. Does that sound fishy?
Don't want them to just raise the bill so its 100% on me

ignore my comment above.
take it to a TV repair guy and ask him to check what he can.
i had my DME solder joints repaired for $20 and it was working again.
the TV repair guy should be able to find a failed capacitor or resistor quite easily, or whatever else may not be working.

Sorry, I should have gioven you more informations.
Company 1 already checked for that, replaced a dead resistor and fixed a burnt circuit path on their own cost. Didnt do the trick so they sent it out to a specialist.
The input voltage converter and corresponding IC are broken.

"for a damaged main voltage converter + IC"
The 964 DME ECM is a very reliable unit and rarely if ever fails. Basically all the failures that occur
result from external sources, e.g. water damage, wiring problems, bad spark plug wires & connectors.
So once the unit is repaired, i.e. if it really needs repair, and the source of the failure is not identified
and corrected, the ECM will most likely fail again.
