Default New problem: No speedo/odo

Spoiler warning light wont go out, and no speedo/odo. No other warning lights, so seems like its not something to do with ABS.

Couple of relays in the box feel kind of loose. The silver one on the bottom left, and the black one next to it. Did a quick browse through the relay list and didn't see anything about speedometer. Guess it could be a fuse too. I'll look into it more later when I have more time.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any fixes/ideas before I get into it.

Thanks!

I have an 1990 and it occasionally does this, its the speedo sending unit...try cleaning the connections..
Mine has been "hinky" since the car was new and was changed plenty while under warranty..it now "self repairs" ..after car has been sitting for an extended period (and it seems only when its cold) it takes about five minutes and 70 mph before it kicks in

I would suspect the R34 relay under the front bonnet could be faulty. I believe it is part # 928-615-124-03. Unplug it, shake or knock it around, plug back in and see it if solves your problem. Or you can try the bypass to confirm if the relay is the cause of your malfunction.

Good luck and keep us posted on what you find.

On the early cars the sending unit connectors get very corroded and brittle due to heat and the symptoms
vag is complaining of are exactly what happens when the sending unit is "offline" I plan on putting on new terminals while I change the slave cylinder and hose

Solved! Was the relay. Labeled something "FWE" on the lid, #24 I believe. Second one in from the bottom left. I dont know if it was in there the wrong way, which did look possible, or just not seated well, but taking it out and reinstalling solved the issue. Glad too, bc that relay is $300+, which is $300+ more dollars than I want to spend on boring parts

FWIW my car is a 91 C4. The part # on the relay is 964.618.221.00
