Default First long trip in 964

Took our first long trip last week in the 964. Left here saturday a week ago on our way to Charleston SC. Approximately 400 miles each way. All in all was a great trip. We started easy and drove from Greenville NC area to Wilmington and stayed the night. Next morning headed further south into Charleston. Spent a few days there and ago no major problems with the car. Seems the fan wants to make a bit of noise when turning left but other than that she ran like a champ. The trip back was good too. Only stop was for lunch in Myrtle beach SC. All in all going down and after a few days of driving around, .5 qts used and during the approximately 6 hr drive back the same usage.

Nice! Did the same this weekend - 600 km each way - used 1 quart I think but will check
Tomorrow once cooled, rested and then re-heated. Hit 250 kph although mostly around
170. lots of mountains no fuzzy bears (I hope!) and pics and vids to follow

Cape town would be sweeeeeeet this time of year. Especially around that mountain road that goes around the coast. Well tried uploading a pic and best I could do was an avatar taken from the holiday inn riverview hotel window. for some reason I cannot upload photos anymore. maybe time for me to upgrade to a paid subscription.

Yes that road rocks - I posted a 964 vid of it a month or two back.
Try uploading to your user cp album but pics can't be too big so resize them first
Else use Flickr or picasa web album and link those ...

But membership does have its privileges
I've saved the membership 10x over in advice and used parts available to members only

Sounds like a great trip. Don't you just love the seats in these cars.
I've done many 4+ hour drives and always feel great when I'm back home.

I swooped out my recaros for the trip (back to sports)
and used the 16in D90s instead of the 17s low profile
... Both great decisions as back roads are preferred re fun but rarely as we'll paved.

Hiwind..what type of vid cam did you use and type of mount ? I have tried a sony bloggy and a windshield mount but I get very unstable video. would definitely like a better setup.

Nothing beats a GoPro in my mind but there are many options out there - search on drivers Ed forum. Then you either use the GoPro suction mount - mine stayed stuck at 250kph so trustworthy, or Brey & Krause make a nice solid mount. Re the GoPro - no need to buy the latest ie Hero 3 - the 2 is now cheap and totally competent. I've raced, road tripped and skied with mine and beside some software niggles - use a pic not Mac to upgrade the software - I've been very happy. search my lucky at the kink thread for an example of how in rough circumstances the camera was faultless.

Ram also make a superb and vry cleverly engineered suction mount which I love
But use it for my gps and laptimer now.

Congrats. Its a lot of fun, isn't it? The longest I've taken mine was across the country (approx 3,000 miles) back in 2005. It was a delight. Very comfortable and enjoyable.
