Default Retrofitting 912 headlights onto 964?

Has anyone tried retrofitting 912 headlights on a 964 before? Does it fit onto the 964 fenders and not how much modification is required to make them work.

Is there a difference between 912 headlights and ROW H4s?

US 912 lights? I.E. sealed beam sugar scoops?

Otherwise they should just be H4s with a chrome trim ring. And they will fit.

Trying to play around with ideas on headlight options for retrofitting some HIDs. The 912 headlights are a lot cheaper than 964 headlights to cut up.

10-4. Are you using US or Euro 912 lights though?

The US style sugar scoops look WAAAY different than the original 964 lights. But they should still fit. The Euro (H4) lights look nearly identical - but aren't cheap.

BTW are you the same guy that does all the BMW vinyl wraps? I've seen a lot of your stuff in the past, looks NICE.

I am assuming those are euro style.

Ahh got it - option "C," early SWB 911/912 headlights. I went round and round on this when I had my '74 911 with later US spec sealed beams and wanted to replace them. For more info check this thread out:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...eadlights.html

The chrome mounting "ring" should physically fit over the 964's fenders (might have to get creative/drill new holes for the screws though, not sure). The only problem I can see is that, IIRC, the 964's headlight openings are sealed off from the rest of the fender, just behind the stock headlights. The headlights you mentioned look like they would sit deeper into the fender, which might interfere with the way the 964's buckets are blocked off.

BTW where are you finding those for cheap?

Found another tidbit in my old notes I was keeping when I had the '74:

"The only fitting problems I've seen are trying to put 67 and earlier U.S.A. seal beam assemblies into 68 and later buckets. You need to remove the 4 mounting tabs to fit them in."

That's a good idea.
I'm eager to see if it works.

I guess I was looking at the VW headlights that are similar to the 912 headlights. So those are cheap in comparison to the original I suppose.

Does anyone also know what the inside housing of the H5 headlights look like? Are they similar to the H4? I am trying to figure out how it'll look like if I ran clear lenses on the headlights.

I've wondered the same thing. The Singer lights to me look like H5 reflectors (which I prefer the look of) with clear lenses and projectors. If H5's were cheap I'd pull a set apart to see what could be done. I'd even try it with a partially fluted lens a la 993.

Is this the type of thing you're looking to achieve?
