Default Snow Time...

Had to drive over to "Grandma's" today over some mountain passes in Oregon. I put my son at the wheel of the C4 for a bit (He's logging time on his learner's permit, and nothing like throwing him in the deep end...)

I worked to keep calm... he did a great job.

Tom - I'm jealous of your son. I would have loved to drive a Porsche at that age. I didn't drive one until my early 20's. The C4 is a great car to learn car control.

You are a brave father!
And the young man is a very lucky son!
My son started "driving" my 964 at the age of five...he was affraid of the car when he was three and four...he is six now and can keep her between the lines! Oregon has been slammed with storms...how does your C4 do around Portland in the snow?
What tires are you running?
Happy Holidays!

It does just fine around PDX... and fine in the mountains too. The only problem is the clearance. If the snow is deep I'll run into problems. That and the tight suspension makes the gatorback ice on the road a real teeth rattling experience. Almost lost the rearview mirror off the windshield today.

OH.. and Michelin Arctic Alpins... they're getting old but they still work fine.

Yeeeha! I threw a Low Friction Clinic yesterday too- spent the better part of two hours joyriding around, made my ex-roomate/now neighbor giggle like a little girl and also make inarticulate noises that I believe meant "HolycraphowisthispossibleAREWEGOINGTODIEWOW WOW WOW!!"

At the end of the night last night I said to my girlfriend, "Pretty sweet, right?" "Yeah, really sweet. It's not like other cars."

'kin-a.

Going to get my son some track training in the summer he's 14 so he has a good idea on how a car handles then when he's got his licence he's driving the 64 under supervision ASAP.....

He looks nice and relaxed in the pic!! Good for you dad

Love it Tom! I can't wait to do the same with my son...I've got 5 more years to mentally get ready.

Speaking of the Scandinavian Flick...

One lucky son indeed... I'm not sure I'll be a brave father when I get there. Great to see the 964s are real cars and not just cars to bring oit once in a while... Drive 'em, maintain 'em, love 'em. All three make me feel good.

On the flick... It is not as easy as it looks and takes plenty of practice. I drove in the snow embankment plenty of times when I was on winter driving boot camp in Finnland. I found it easier in the earlier Porsche 4WD cars than the later ones. The eletronics make the car behave a little different every time. Also at the extremes the fronts stop pulling on the newer cars (steering angle extremes). There is plenty of diff on how the various P systems work and the cayenne was a complete diff beast again. 2 WD 911s are verry difficult on snow/ice I found as the change in traction on a flick left me without enough time to react... It's as if it so much less forgiving. On wet pavement / medium traction this does not seem to be the case for the 2WD cars. In any case, practice with cones around or with large snow embankments and a tractor to pull you out

Enjoy!
