Default Headlight removal

Hi everyone, I have a 1991 C2 (964). I want to remove my headlights and clean the foggy lens. I have removed the ring leaving the gasket attached to body. My questions are should I lift the unit from bottom towards me? I have some resistance and I wonder if I am missing a fastener that needs to be removed. Thanks for the help.

Once you have removed the ring and then the bottom screw, you just gently work the whole headlamp out. If it's not been out for ages, it will seem stuck and take a lot of persuading to move.

Here is an update. That spring on the RHS holds lens bracket to a primary bracket that is fastened by three screws on the body.Name: DSC_2277sfw.jpg

here is a pic of one of the screws, just remove all three and the entire assembly is easily lifted out. Name: DSC_2283sfw.jpg

Then remove plug from the back Name: DSC_2284sfw.jpg

Remove bracket and bulb from back of lens

Remove the anti moisture attachment which is held by just one screw.

Pour a cup of denatured alcohol and swish it around, I also used a sponge attached to a chopstick and gave it a light swipe. Here is a clean left lens and a dirty right lens for comparison.Name: DSC_2286sfw.jpg

Your headlamp unit and the way it is mounted is completely different to my european 964 which explains why it was more involved to remove it. What country model is yours?

Were the rubber drain tubes blocked? May contribute to some of that condensation...

Hi everyone, Update: passenger side headlight came out very well. Driver side not nearly as well, I cleaned it four more times, the last time I switched to Hydrogen Peroxide and left it over night. Once the lens dried some of the cloudiness returned. Overall much better after, let's not forget the bonding experience

boxsey911: where will i find the country model ? ( I assume it is USA) DOB 10/21/1991
LM964: The rubber drain tubes were not blocked.
Robbie: I think I will replace in a couple of years. The before and after photo was taken just after draining the alcohol, a little cloudiness did return from passenger side headlight.

ROW models came with H4 head lamps, North American models came with H5 head lamps. Very different mounting. In the schematic below, you will see the H5 on top and the H4 below.

"denatured alcohol" is your friend in many instances.
