Default 964 '91 911 Fresh Air Flap motor removal

Hi

My fresh air servo is not functional, and I get error 24, as well as no rotation of the servo when I press the Recirculate air button.

I have tried to remove the servo, but since it is stuck with the white lever pointing forward, I cannot remove it. Tried to apply 12 to terminals 4 & 5 to rotate the arm but no reaction (as expected). I hate to break the arm, as I do have a spare servo (without arm) to replace the defective one (or maybe it is fixable).

Anyone with any suggestions how to remove the servo?

Thanks

Don S.

Default Remove fresh air flap motor

I finally found a way. I removed the servo motor next ( toward the driver's side in US) to the Fresh Air flap and then I was able to remove the servo, by sliding it to the right and out.
Now the task of figuring how to fix it. I have a spare servo but for a hot air mxing, so the shaft is different. Will see if I can swap it.

Try disassembling the servo and cleaning the contacts first before you give up on it.

Have you tested the motor pins 4 & 5 Motor might not go because there could be a dead spot on the pc board
Clean the board carefully
Usually dead spots occurr where the contacts end in the cycal. Sometimes it's a build up of crud

As far as i know and tested you can carefully open the case and switch the internals. But keep the mechanics. You will not be able to unscrew them and is not recomended. Usually the motors are fried or barely move. The motors were also used inn some central locking stuff from other manufacturers.

Default Fresh air flap servo 964

Hi to all

EUREKA! I was able to remove the servo, after removing the one next to it, open it and clean the contacts, tested it and it works.
It is now back in the car, and everything is buttoned up and working.
Hopefully it will work for the next 21 years as it did for the previous 21.

Thanks for all the help.

Don

Mine kept failing so I got no fresh air. Was able to connect a power supply to pins 4 and 5 so the flap was set all the way on fresh air. Then, I disconnected the unit by removing the plug. The Porsche default is for the flap to close to re-circulate every time the car is turned off, so it wears out the servo potentiometer. I don't have AC but the heat seems to work fine when the flap is set to outside air.

I am going to revive this dead thread to ask if this failure will result in illumination of the central warning light (exclamation mark) on the dash. I keep getting the light intermittently while driving with no trouble codes except this and rear fan temp sensor.

no. the central warning indicators are described in the manual, which ones light up the "!" etc.

Basically it's: oil, fuel, etc.

Are you sure you don't have another bulb out causing a light to be hidden on the actual error? Do all your lights turn on when turning key to "on" ?

Not that I can immediately see. All the important ones seem to be functional:
Sorry for gigantic pics...don't know how to fix that

Hi
I had two failures of the Fresh Air servo, so I finally set it open, and disconnected the cable. Not the fresh air is always on. I have AC, and it does not affect it at all, besides I drive the car with Targa off all the time, so the AC is seldom used, but on hot days I will turn it on to get a cool breeze, even with top off.
If help to run the AC once a month or so, to keep the seals lubricated.
PS: I do not have the problem with the central warning light, but I did have it some 5 years ago, and if I remember correctly it was related to the Air Bag sensor. He'd to clean the contacts of the two connectors in the forward trunk.

Well now that I have 3 listers confirming that the (!) is not illuminated due to CCU faults, I am at a loss as to why I am receiving this recurring phenomenon.

(!) is lit as soon as I start the car, and if canceled with reoccur while driving with no apparent cause. I have completely removed the rear spoiler control unit, so I know it is not related to that system at all.

No Motronic faults reported using Tore's scantool. Any thoughts fellas?
