Iphone dock in the ashtray
I picked this off a thread on DDK and thought it was a cracking idea, I currently use an adapter lead with a jack socket from my Porsche/Becker CDR20 anyone know of a lead from the dock that can be adapted ?

Sorry for no links. I'm on my phone.
Going to buy the black one and have a go as my head unit doesn't control iPod so it sits between my legs. Very annoying

Have you any idea the stress the dock connection will take when the dock and phone are both moving? If you insist on having the iPhone in the ashtray you would be far better off using a standard adapter cable. This could be fed from behind the head unit and through the ash tray opening.
I myself keep my iPhone in the ashtray but it is connected via Bluetooth to the head unit for voice only and I have an iPod in the glove box for music.
Now I hope I'm wrong but looking at this unit I really don't see how the iPhone can be properly supported with the dock so rigidly mounted.

the ash tray is quite deep so im hoping to make a tight surround trimmed in alcantara to match my dash, which will be over the top of the dock and hold the phone solidly in place.
I have made a few docks for cars before but never to stand up so this will be trial and error.

Quite a few people have done this in VW splitty ashtrays.
Some links for reference, may help:
Splitty ashtray #1
Splitty ashtray #2
The key is to have it sunk down slightly I guess, so that the side walls of the tray stop it from taking flight on your favourite corner

Got my dock through yesterday
removed the metal surround in the ashtray and did a trial fit
need to remove the two prongs so it can come as far forward as possible and also need to tilt it forwards slightly as when the phone is in it it tilts back slightly which hits the heater ***.
should work perfectly though
