Yes. The flat tops are very helpful. I have 4 of them. I wish I had another set.

I have a set, and they are a quality product, BUT the lowest position is pretty tall. To me, at least, asymmetrically jacking the car up high enough to use them is a bit uncomfortable. I jack up one side, put 2 x 10 blocks under the wheels, and then jack up the other side. They do however work great for the family truckster.

Occasionally there are group buys on those stands, but the supply situation for them has been dodgy in the past.

Thanks everyone. What about a lift which way do most go on those?

Currently, I have a 1.5 car garage which was built in 53. It is only a standard height garage.

I would like to make the garage wider and make it 11 ft tall in order to put a lift in there that would allow me to walk under the car.

This is not a necessity just a like to have...will be using either these jacks or a lift to take out the engine/trans eventually.

Thanks again,
Steve

Steve,
Having lifted the car many times, I can really appreicate wanting a grippy supportive jack stand top!

I already had a set of 4-ton jackstands from Sears that look pretty beefy so I didn't want/need to buy another set. The standard craddle design, works OK but I never felt comfortable under the car ...until I found slip-on rubber jackstand covers at Harbor Freight. (no afill)

I've used them for the past two years and they have been perfect. They have not torn and the rubber is very grippy. The rubber material fill-in/supports the v channel on normal jack stands and creates a flat rubber support. I feel much more comfortable under the car now.

It's another option.

Protect your car from scrapes and nicks while using 3 or 6 ton jack stands with these handy rubber jack stand pads! The jack stand pads won't gouge or rip and are slip- and oil-resistant. Keep your vehicle free of marring and scratches with these handy rubber jack stand pads!
•Slip and oil resistant
•Won't gouge or rip
•One pair of rubber pads for our 3 and 6 ton jack stands

Great option regarding the slip-on rubber jack stand covers. I have one set of jack stands already and do not like those v-shaped tops and this would no doubt make me feel more comfortable using that set. I will no doubt buy a set of those.

Thanks again.

There are dealers on eBay that sell it for $50 less and offer free shipping (and no sales tax). Also check out Craigslist, I've seen them pop up for as low as $1250
