Default 964 v muscle cars

So, I'm just back from 3 weeks holiday in Florida and I've been very much drawn to Chevy Camaros and Dodge Challengers after seeing plenty of them out there.

Are they on the allowed list?! I don't know what their following is like!

And how do you guys in the US choose between muscle cars and a 964?! Unfortunately I didn't see any 964s where we were (actually only saw one Porker - a lonely Boxster) - but I imagine they're quite small in comparison to the rest of the traffic?

You mean the original Camaro/Challenger or the recent ones?

If you mean the current ones, the 964 is a no-brainer in terms of value and value held. The new cars are good, but will eventually be cheap, 'cause that's how they're made.

With respect to the old ones, the 964 is a better car, but in terms of coolness and long-term value the 'murrican iron can hold its own.

I have a Ford F150 Lightning that's serious muscle and awesome in a straight line but I still tend to pick up the 964 keys more.

A word about buying a newer muscle car like the Camaro and Challenger: don't.

The new ones are big, very heavy and depreciation will sink like the Titanic.

The 1960s-1970s are a hoot, as long as you never come upon a twisty road

I'd take your 964 over either in a heartbeat.

Completely different culture.

A 964 has about as much in common to a Pony or Muscule car as a rabbit does to an Elm Tree.

Yup, agreed. Like comparing Lance Armstrong to Arnold Schwarzenegger.

And no you don't see a lot of 964 around any where cept maybe SoCal., but that is what makes them that much more special.

Well I guess that new ones 'cus that's all I really saw. Though I am familiar with the old chargers, which do look cool.

Well I think in reality I'm not about to buy one - a) they're not readily available in the UK so would need to be an expensive import, and b) I've got no room in the garage!

I guess I was more interested to see if there's a totally different following, not knowing the cars that well.

Indeed. Same here really in terms of 993s, 963s and older 911s. Although I was surprised not to see more newer Porkers. Although perhaps not the right area, being around Kissimmee - I guess heavily tourist area so lots of rentals and people carriers on the road.

That said, I lied, as I did see one other Porker - a Carrera GT, how could I have forgotten that

Agree to what others said that the newer ones aren't worth it.

I love the muscle cars of the 60's. Specifically the '68 Charger and Camaro.

I want to do a touring swap on a '68 Charger.

Why does it have to one versus another... get both !

Ever since I saw "Vanishing Point", I've wanted a 1970 Challenger R/T

muscle car wins hands-down - in a straight line

if I recall correctly the best mileage was 8 mpg with the highest octane (100+ with lead)

Loved them but I'll keep my 964

I was looking for an '11 or '12 GT500 Convertible when I decided to go the 964 route. I still might get one down the road but I'm enjoying the 964. There is a big difference between the fierce torque and horsepower vs. the finesse of the Porsche. Both are a blast to drive and I wish I had the money and space for both. Currently this is what I choose from when I grab the keys.

Nice

My other choice is a lazy care free cruise only VW split screen camper, which I love. Perhaps I just need to stick a bucket exhaust on the family Chrysler to give me a throaty V8 sound and I'll be happy!

And I like the twists on your cab - I'd quite like a set of those myself.
