Converting 4 way power seat to 8 way?
I am looking at a pair of seats that appear to be in really nice shape. The problem is the power options. I did a search but not finiding much. Anyone ever convert 4 way power to 8 way power? How about the heated seat part? I have been searching for really nice cashmere with black piping for a while, so was just wondering. I prob should not care about the power seat differences, but I want them right. And I love the heated seats up here in Boston.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I have done it, and more.

It is a giant puzzle, the only hurdle is finding the needed parts. The factory is *very* proud of their seats and their parts....

Nice work george, So you were able to get rid of the non-power part and replace it with the power part? actually how hard was it to take just the seat covers off and just re-instal on my current frames? Maybe just have my brother do that from L.A .and just send me the perfect seat covers saving all the shipping fees to Boston.

Changing a seat cover is easy enough. Tabs to unbend, switch surrounds to unscrew.
Adding functions gets harder. For instance electric recline necessitates a deicated seat skeleton, as the hinges are different. Heating is easy to transplant, provided you have the relevant parts, including the 3 dial switch.

I bought 8 way seats out of a salvage car. The hides were good but the driver seat frame was bent beyond repair. I was just going to install the passenger side seat and transfer the hides on the driver side onto my frame, but discovered that the hinge is differnet for the 8 way. It has a geared pivot point which is connected to the motor to adjust the seat back. I believe you can transfer the 8 way hinge onto a 4 way frame if it's in good condition, but mine was damaged so I wound up with no electric seat back tilit. I also put the forward/back motor and threaded drives in, but wound up taking them back out because I move the seat all the way back when exiting the car and the electric drive took too long. So, I wound up where I started, as far as function, with 4 way control. But I did get nice all leather supple hides.
I would agree that the easiest thing is to find some 8 way frames with motors and just swap the hides, unless you have the patience to swap out all the electrical operation. If you try to change yours to 8 way, I would strongly suggest that you take about a thousand pictures of each seat, from above and below, as you tear them down. It was a little confusing for me (and I'm usually pretty good at visualizing things spatially and how things go together - it's what I do for a living) but I really had to rely on my pics.
