Makmov, thanks for the pic. Well I disconnected the battery and checked the plug. It looked great but I cleaned them with contact cleaner anyway. Cleared the 21 code and it eventually came back and the dash light never went out. Could the crash sensor be bad? Can I try trouble shooting by switching the left and right ones around? Any Ideas what to check next?
Thanks,

You can check the clock.

The pin solder joints is where they go bad.

Ck continuity between the pin and the board and the pin and the light socket.

I resolder all the pins and cleared the code and it's been off for six months or so.

Hi

The connector was cleaned on my 993 sensor (just a single one in the 993?) but it made no difference. It threw a whole load of codes at first before settling down to the usual 5.

At some point the whole steering mechanism will have to come apart. My problem started when I changed my steering wheel to another airbag equipped version.

Ok, sounds like the clock is the next thing to check. Does it just slide out of the dash or is there a fastner behind the dash holding it in?

It looks like this is somewhat of a common problem. I will give it a try and post the results.
Thanks, guys

Just gavity.

The 1 pin plug is a bugger it has a little tab that you can't get too.

The main harness just pulls off with the might of god.

Then it's free.

I didn't have a sucker so heated the solder for the three pins and wipped it off until I got most of it and then just worked it off the board with the iron.

Otherwise it's easy enough to do. Of course Porsche says just replace the clock.

I realize that this is the lazy way out (I had the car in the shop for an Alarm issue that I could not correct on my own.), but I had the dealership look at this. $249.50 later it is fixed with a new left front crash sensor.

I unplugged the 3 pin connectors. They are gold plated, so it is not likely they are the cause of the intermittent airbag light. It must be something else which is intermittent.
Mine usually comes on just after starting up, but the other day, it came on after driving 300 miles.

I too have a air bag light on. The error code says its one of the front sensors. When i get time, I plan on cleaning the connectors. I figure it can't hurt.

Default Air bag light on

Hi to all

I had the same problem and Durametrtic tool told me that the left side sensor is the problem.
I did the Clock resolver with no effect, but did notice cracked solder joints.
I finally did the connector clean bit, and so far the light has not been back.
The connectors on the 964 1991 C2 are round black rubberized connectors.
The right side one is just under the front lip of the fuse box, hard to get to, while the left one is on a similar location, but under the fuel hoses. Similarly hard to get to.
I disconnected both and cleaned the contacts using a clean paint brush with alcohol and added some WD 40. I reset the fault codes, and so far positive results.
