Cab owners - how to mod the top to work with the engine running
I searched for an answer and didn't find it, but haven't looked at the wiring diagram yet.
I think it is just plain stupid that Porsche designed the top to only work when the engine isn't running. Most cars require the emergency brake to be activated which makes sense.
I want to wire the top so that I can put it up or down, with or without the engine running. I believe I'm smart enough to not try an raise or lower the top while driving 65mph, but it would be nice to put it up while sitting at a stop light.
Who's done it?

Not sure this is a Mod . I can put the top down with the engine on and I have had it for about 10 years now. I just have to have the parking brake on. Mine is a 91 Cab also (Guards Red also )

I just doubled checked it and it doesn't work with the ebrake on. I just checked the manual and it says that the engine must be off with the key in position 2

I agree, it is really stupid to have to have the engine off to put the top up or down. If there is a mod to fix this with no negatives, I would implement it too.

Mine goes up and down with the car running. It was that way when I bought it 9 years ago. I still need to have the brake on but if I do it one click I can move about 10mph and it still works. Over 10 it doesnt. I have no idea how it was rewired by the PO.

Quick update:
From http://78.47.139.25/archive/index.php/t-2444.html
I gather it works, but that that there is one minor glitch: When one starts the car, the roof light always comes up. One must press the roof switch briefly to turn it off.
(At least that's what Suzz964 experiences)

I've seen this method but didn't know if it worked. I emailed a Porsche expert - Henry Riley - who has done the mod for his customers. He is sending me the info and I will post it up. It might just be the Green/White wire as you described.

Please keep us posted - I hate draining the battery with the cab top motors before starting the car !
