Default Scantool OBDPlot Battery Voltage - Problem Solved

I've been checking out my '90 C2 with my Scantool interface and OBD_Plot V1.3 (a great tool made even better with the very useful software from Julian Bunn).

While running the engine and collecting a data plot (attached) I noticed an odd discrepancy. The battery voltage is indicating about 100X the expected value. Of course this is not possible but I'm curious if anyone else has seen the same error. Could be it's a difference in scaling factor in different DME versions?

I've been in touch with Julian and he is looking into it but asked if I would canvas the forum. Anyone have a similar experience?

Cheers!

Jim

I emailed Julian about that in 2010, then I saw that he had his car up for sale so I didn't really pursue it after that. Like you said, it's just the wrong scaling.

Julian is still helping out with the software even though he has no longer has his 964 (very nice of him). He sent me an updated version of the OBD_plot code with the scaling changed by a factor of 100. Now I have one version that says 1300V and another that says 0.13V. Obviously there is something else going on!

I will follow up with him to see what light he can shed on it.

Cheers!

Default Scantool OBDPlot Battery Voltage - Problem Solved

The problem turned out to be a scaling value discrepancy between versions of OBDPlot. I've attached an image of the updated display produced by the revised code showing a more believable battey voltage of 13.16 Volts.

If anyone else is having this problem with Version 1.3 of the OBDPlot software I have the author's permission (Julian Bunn) to pass along the update that he sent to me (V1.3a) to resolve the issue (attached as OBDPlot1.3a.zip).

Please note that this is only the zip of the .exe file so you will need to have the original file set already installed on your computer (available here: http://pcbunn.cacr.caltech.edu/jjb/P...64-Porsche.htm.

You may also need to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) (available here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=5555) if you get an error message re a missing msvcr100.dll file.

Thanks again to Julian for supporting 964 enthusiasts with this very useful software!

Cheers!

Jim G.
