something I'll never do again

my 92 passed smog but was high on NOx, so I decided to change O2 sensor at 217k miles. I bought the $60 Bosch replacement which needs to be spliced into existing connector. What a PITA. The splice connector will not fit through the grommet hole and so you end up trying to splice the wires with your hands down the side of the engine by the aux blower.

If I can't get it connected, I will just buy the correct one with the correct connector.

for anyone else, don't even think twice about buying the correct one.

Thanks for the heads up. I went ahead and ordered the proper O2 sensor tonight. Costs more but appears to solve the PITA factor.

the correct one is about 80 bucks through amazon

I pulled the rubber plug out and enlarged the hole enough to get the whole plug through the hole so I could work on it in comfort. Then got a larger rubber plug to slide over the plug/wire .

+ 1 Totally plug and play

Makmov May 1, 2012 12:15 PM

I had to replace my O2 and never even thought about trying to use anything but the correct plug and play one for my car, and it's got to be a Bosch.

BTW if you took to blower out, which is really easy to do, you would have had all kinds of room.

Most of the time if not all, it's just not worth the trouble of saving a couple dollars on a part that doesn't fit, doesn't work, or doesn't last.

got it done and the idle went from 750 to 1000 now I'll do a software "whatcha macallit" and get it reset

oh yeah,, adaptation

Laker May 2, 2012 09:36 AM

Steve, I'm bringing my Dutch Scantool out to Silicon Valley on May 14th to help another guy on here. Let me know if you'd like to use it for adaptation.

Laker May 2, 2012 02:27 PM

I bought a the right one and replaced the spliced one.

jcs_911 Jul 18, 2012 02:04 PM

The spliced one has worked for me, very well in fact.
