About four months ago the body shop had to remove the oil tank on my 964 targa to get the hoop off for the repaint.
The lads have put my old oil beyond themselves so I need to know how much is in the tank as the car resto is nearly done.
The guru who looks after my car has told me 4litres, is that right?

It will depend on how long the car sat without running the engine before they removed the tank. Oil will migrate from the tank into the crank case; your best bet is to start over, drain the crank case, change the filter, and then refill.
I have drained as much as 8 litres from the crank case on a cold oil change, and as little as 2 litres on a hot one.
