Default Diff Warning Light

Hi,

My diff warning light comes on for a while when i first start my engine from cold. Is this normal as it doesn't say anything about it in the owners manual?

Cheers

if you mean the red light with the little four wheel drive schematic, that's pretty normal, it goes out after 30 secs or so when the hydraulics have re-pressurized. You can hear the hydraulic pump wiring away while it presurrisies the system, once the light goes out, you can provoke it to come back on if you pump madly at the brake pedal, and again you'll hear the pump running. In traffic you'll hear the pump click on and off now and again.

If it stays on a very long time or the pump is running a lot of the time, you might need a new pressure vessel or "bomb", or maybe a new hydraulic pump.

Yeah, it's normal. The system need to pressurize to 7.5kps. If it seems to take too long then you probably need to bleed the bomb as mentioned.

I know, I just bleed my system and the light goes out right away now, compared to before.

Makmov how does bleeding the bomb help the system pressurize quicker? Does air leak in over time? Did you do it as part of a full brake, clutch, diff lock bleed procedure? I'm noticing my brake and diff lights are taking a little longer to go off after the car has sat for more than a few hours than I remember from last year - maybe 45 seconds vs 30 seconds.

If there is air in the system it needs to compress the air first to the point it can pressurize the system. Remember air compresses and fluids dont.

Yeah, I did HDs and H&R springs so you have to brake open the lines in the front, while I was there I just replace them all with stainless steel lines and did a full system bleed.

Just before I got the car the replace the ABS pump and I think there may have been some air left in the system. All I know is I notice the ABS AWD lights go out much quicker than they used to, maybe 10-15 seconds now. Mine used to take a long time to go out too, 45 seconds after sitting for several hours.

Maybe, but I doubt it, it was the fluid type or brand. No idea what was in it but it's got ATE super blue in it now.
