When I picked up the car my mechanic retuned a bunch of paper work to me. I've gone through it and cannot find his notes (which included before and after measurements related to ride height and alignment) nor any paperwork from the alignment shop. I know he had the notes as we reviewed them prior to the alignment. Hopefully he still has them and I can get them on Monday. I'll post them up when I do.

Refreshing the suspension seems like a popular mod at this time. I considered the whole range of solutions and for me this route seemed the best compromise for a street car that sees and occasional DE event.

My son is home from Boston for the weekend and he is very happy with the refresh. We are going to take the car on a spirited drive today and maybe even try to duplicate Udo's (911Jetta) photo of his stock 964 sitting next to a Carrera RS. We'll substitute my stock 993 with SUV ride height for the stock 964.

A few months ago I found this photo in a post by 911Jetta:

Today I tried to recreate the photo using my two cars:

It's actually hard to capture but the 964 is lower!

You just need a nice looking blonde in a bikini to stand between the 2 cars. The bikini strings will then provide a good baseline to compare heights.

How cool is that! Father and son chasing each other in their Porsches.
I love that.

Thanks Udo and Daryl! It is cool when you son shares your love of Porsche's!

Udo, my son and I thought we would take a similar photo to the one showing you happy son looking out the rear window. In any event you can see my son between the two cars above.

Today I managed to go to the shop where the work was done and get a copy of the mechanic's notes.

For reference:

Driver's side front wheel is #1
Passenger side front wheel is #2
Passenger side rear wheel is #3
Driver side rear wheel is # 4

Here is what I show:

Ride Height Before:
#1 26 13/16"
#2 26 15/16"
#3 25 1/2"
#4 25 9/16"

Ride Height After:
#1 25 13/16"
#2 25 3/4"
#3 24 13/16"
#4 24 15/16"

Ride Height difference:
#1 -1"
#2 -1 3/16"
#3 -3/16"
#4 -5/8"

Camber before:
#1 -3/8
#2 0
#3 -5/8
#4 -1/2

Camber after alignment:
#1 -1/4
#2 -7/16
#3 -1 1/8
#4 -1 1/8

I believe that the toe in for both front and rear is 1/8.

On the front shocks there is 3/8" thread showing under the mount, 1/4" showing on the rears.

I'll take proper measurements of the ride height this weekend.

The car is perfectly aligned and will stay perfectly straight on the freeway at 65 mph. Visually I cannot detect the negative camber in the rear.

All and all I am extremely pleased. For aesthetic reasons I wish the front were a bit lower but the ride height seems to match what others are doing and it is significantly lower than before. Plus there are no issues with bump steer and scraping.

I measured the ride height in the front from the proper measuring point. 128mm on both sides. This would pretty much be at euro RS ride height which is 125mm +/- 5mm.

This confuses me as all the photos I have seen that purport to be of cars set at Euro RS ride height seem much lower as viewed from the top of the front wheel wells.

I wonder if the D-90 wheels cause this?

Here is a link showing photos of a '91 RS lightweight with D-90 wheels:

Here are two photos linked from the Road Scholars web article:
